Stage 2 - Takaanini Notice of Requirement
Given the pace of development in South Auckland, we are getting on with route protection Stage 2 beginning with the Takaanini section. A Notice of Requirement (NoR) was lodged with Auckland Council in June 2025 to protect the land until the designation is confirmed and included in the Auckland Unitary Plan.
The length and directness of the route, avoidance of highest risk flood areas, and the need for flexibility to allow a range of options to be considered further south for future stages of Mill Road are important factors in selecting this new alignment through the Takaanini section.
Stage 2 – Takaanini will be implemented as and when required, driven by area growth and enabled by funding availability. We recognise the significance of growth along the Mill Road corridor and surrounding areas and the need for certainty of the route. We intend to apply for future designations by mid-2027.
