Happy New Year!

Sonnya Dennis, DVM, DABVP (Canine & Feline Practice), MOC Chair

Welcome to the new class of ABVP® Diplomates!

New Diplomates may start uploading to Prolydian for MOC. All items must originate after 1/1/2026 to count. Anything prior to this date will not count towards MOC points.

We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you upload points on a routine basis. For example, set a reminder every 6 months to upload whatever you have accumulated over the prior 6 months. You must keep track of what is uploaded. Duplicates will not get noticed until renewal time and may negatively impact your final MOC application. Personally, I have two folders: one labeled “stuff I need to upload,” and one labeled “stuff I have uploaded.” Well, maybe mine does not say “stuff” per se… ;)

If you have any issues submitting applications for points or encounter an error code, contact Prolydian help. The MOC Committee cannot address technical issues. You are always welcome to cc me, so I know that there is an issue!

All Diplomates, I’d like to gauge interest in a Zoom help session. If you are interested, please fill out this quick 1-minute survey.

ABVP® Member CV Upload Portal Is Now Live!

Stephen Pittenger, DVM, DABVP (Canine & Feline Practice), FF-ABVP-EP, President Elect

As ABVP® continues to grow each year, it’s more important than ever that we stay connected to the incredible work our members are doing—both within and beyond veterinary medicine. To help us do that, we now have a secure web portal for members to upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV).

We already collect CVs from applicants during the credentialing cycle, but now we are asking all current members to upload an updated CV as well. Your CV helps us better understand your experience, interests, and professional activities so we can better match members with opportunities and organizational needs.

All members serving on committees should upload their CV so we have a clearer picture of current commitments. New members who are not yet volunteering are also encouraged to upload their CVs so they can be considered for the many roles that help support ABVP®. We further request that members update their CV in the portal whenever a major professional change occurs (new position, certification, publications, leadership roles, etc.).

How to Upload Your CV:

  1. Go to ABVP.com
  2. Click on Diplomate Login
  3. Log into Prolydian
  4. On the left side of the screen, find “My Member Actions”
  5. Click “Submit Your CV” and upload your most current CV

Thank you for helping ABVP® stay connected, informed, and strong through your continued engagement and professional service.

ABVP® VIN Rounds

ABVP® is happy to partner with VIN to make Rounds available to all ABVP® Diplomates. You must be a VIN member and/or an ABVP® Diplomate to attend. Those who attend the live session earn 1 hour of CE credit. Sessions are also recorded for viewing later with NO CE credit attached.

Save The Date!

Thursday, February 12, 8 PM Central Time
Top 3 Emergencies in Ruminant Medicine
Rick Stockler, DVM, MS, PhD, DABVP (Dairy)

If you have not received access to VIN, please email VIN directly at mailto:rounds@vin.com. ABVP® cannot assist with access since Rounds are on the VIN platform.

If you are a newer Diplomate and interested in presenting, please email vinrounds@abvp.com. Each lecture is about 50 minutes long and you will need to keep an eye on your lecture's message board after the lecture for a couple of weeks. VIN will pay you for your lecture. ABVP® will help you with your lecture by assigning you a mentor, if you would like.

Happy new year fellow diplomates. Hope you all had a great holiday season and are rejuvenated for 2026. Foals are being born, mares are being prepped for breeding, rodeo season is starting. Soon racing and horseshows will gear up.
Please try to join us in Boston in April for the ABVP® Symposium. Registration is open.

A Small Symbol with Big Impact

It’s time for ABVP® to be official - and to use the trademarks we’ve worked so hard to earn correctly and consistently.

As you update your clinic website, email signature, or any client-facing materials (such as business cards, pamphlets, or signage), please be sure to include the ® symbol with all uses of the ABVP® name and credentials.

Correct examples include:

  • ABVP®

  • Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners®

Using the registered trademark symbol is more than a formality. It helps protect the ABVP® brand, reinforces the credibility and value of board certification, and demonstrates that ABVP® actively maintains and defends its intellectual property. This is especially important as we approach trademark renewal, where consistent and proper use plays a key role in preserving our legal protections.

Thank you for helping safeguard the strength and recognition of the ABVP® credential - your attention to this small detail makes a meaningful difference.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Wellbeing (DEIW) Corner

January is National Poverty in America Awareness Month, an important moment to reflect on how economic hardship affects millions of people and the pets they love. According to the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center, the poverty rate in the United States increased from 9.3% in June to 11.7% in November, the biggest increase in one year since 1960.

In veterinary medicine, we often see the impact of these financial challenges firsthand as clients struggle to afford preventive care or urgent treatment for their animals. Raising awareness in our field helps reinforce the value of equitable, compassionate care strategies and community-focused solutions that support both pet health and the well-being of families facing economic hardship.

For practices seeking guidance on improving access to care, the AAHA Community Care Guidelines for Small Animal Practice offers useful frameworks for expanding services and collaborating with community partners:

Additional context on National Poverty in America Awareness Month is available through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services resource center.

As we observe this month, it’s an opportunity to consider how our teams can contribute to more accessible veterinary care and supportive client engagement during times of financial stress.
