City of Palmerston is offering free workshops for young people (15 years and over) to learn skills to become a Master of Ceremonies or more commonly known as an MC. MCs are the glue that hold live events together including everything from cabarets, poetry readings, official ceremonies, awards nights, and everything in between. They play a crucial role in the atmosphere, vibe and audience experience. It is also a fun and great way to earn money if you have the skills. City of Palmerston hopes to have a pool of young, skilled MCs that we can draw from in future, so the aims of this workshop is to get you paid and gigs in future. These workshops are highly practical and taught my two of the most experienced and prolific MCs in the NT, Sarah Reuben (Darwin Festival, NT Writers' Centre & Brown's Mart) and Brent Watkinson (Hot 100, Panel Beaters). Workshops will cover microphone technique, vocal technique, and performing with confidence and clarity and will be hands on, relaxed and very fun. Build your confidence and your employable skills! You don’t need to be living within Palmerston, as I suspect one of the focuses of the plan will be how to better integrate the Palmerston and Rural and Darwin Arts overlap. The City of Palmerston is developing its new Arts and Creative Industries Strategy for 2023-2027. Territory based consultants Matrix on Board Consulting have been engaged to work with the community and Council to develop a five-year strategy to support participation and engagement in the arts across the diverse population and economy of the City of Palmerston footprint. Involving the artists and arts and cultural organisations who call Palmerston home or use workshops, classes, exhibitions, or performance venues across Palmerston’s footprint is a crucial part of developing a useful strategy. You are invited to participate in our survey, we want to hear from artists based in Palmerston and its surrounds. Your experiences, opinions and ideas are highly valued and appreciated. Kidz Vs Cops The second Kids Vs Cops Event went well with good attendance and partnership from a range of organisations. The final event, Grand Final will be held on Wed 29th June at the Palmerston Rec Centre. A Flyer will be sent and please promote this event with young people you work with. Squad 145 took on the challenge at the Kidz vs Copz comp recently however, at the final buzzer the kids sent the recruits back to the classroom after being schooled Thanks to Constable 1C David Miles from the Community Resilience and Engagement Command for lining up the recruits to play! Thank you to all our participants and young people who schooled the recruits! |
