Thesis Deadline
Graduate students who have not electronically submitted their final thesis copy to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs by May 10 will not be eligible to graduate in spring 2024 and must register for the summer 2024 term.Notice of Construction
Facilities Management and Planning is rebuilding the south-side staircase beside the Tory Building because they are in a deteriorated state. To ensure the area around the construction site is safe for members of the community, the section of path just west of the staircase to Herzberg will be closed. Construction projects in the Quad are also underway and fencing has been erected around the grass for safety purposes. A small part of the tunnel directly located under the stairs will also be closed during this time. Due to roof work on the Herzberg Building, the pathway in front of the building will be temporarily moved to accommodate a crane. Access to Herzberg will not be impacted. The section of tunnel from past St. Patrick's to Leeds House will be closed until July 5 to complete the tunnel connection to the new student residence. Class schedule and registration course planning tool will be available in Carleton Central (access by logging into Carleton360) on Monday, May 27, 2024. Registration begins for new and returning graduate students on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 based on pre-assigned time tickets. Be sure to visit Step 1 of Registration in Carleton Central to view your registration start time. Your exact time-ticket will be available on Carleton Central approximately
one week preceding the registration time period. It is always advisable to register when your time-ticket opens to ensure the best chance of getting the courses you would like; however, registration remains open until the posted deadline. For specific course questions, please refer to your individual department. Registration dates can be found on our Registrar Office’s website. Registration steps are provided in detail here.International Students: Authorized Off-Campus Work Returns to 20 Hours Per Week
Some international students have been able to take advantage of a temporary policy removing the 20-hour per week cap on off-campus work. The temporary policy ended on April 30, 2024. Students whose program takes a regularly scheduled break during the summer term may continue working full-time until the start of Fall classes. Biology Grad Student’s Thesis Explores Game Day Readiness in Female Athletes: As Women’s Hockey Gains Momentum, Nick Westcott Researched the Impact Resistance Training has on Game Day Performance with Ravens Varsity PlayersNick Westcott is the first researcher to assess the effect of resistance priming on female athletes, and the implications of his data is
important to strength and conditioning coaches who might seek to apply these practices with their professional female athletes. Having successfully defended his thesis this past winter titled, A Comparison of Different Modes of Morning Priming Exercise on Evening Jump, Lower Body Strength, and On-Ice Sprint Performance in Sub-Elite Female Hockey Players, Westcott is now implementing his research into his daily job as the Manager, Performance and Sport Science for Carleton University varsity athletes. In this position he develops and implements performance plans across all levels using evidence-based practices.

From now until July 15, the Graduate Student Summer Circle will take place every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. Anthropology PhD Student Wins 2024 Salisbury AwardCarleton’s Carole Therrien has been awarded the 2024 Richard F. Salisbury Award. The fourth year PhD student in Anthropology—with a Specialization in Political Economy—was pleasantly surprised to have won this award. “I’m quite lucky and honoured that my research that focuses on how women thrive and dedicate themselves to others was selected,” says Therrien. “I felt that it was a great reflection on the calibre of research that comes out of Carleton University and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. CIHR will be offering MS Teams Q&A sessions to trainees, postdoctoral researchers and institution staff regarding award programs they offer.
