The commercial zones of Ōtaki and Te Horo will be key considerations

Listening to what you told us

Throughout May we asked the community what changes should be considered when designing the revocation corridor between Peka Peka to Ōtaki. Basically, we wanted to know what you think should happen to State Highway 1 when the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway opens in 2021.

We asked people to complete online or written feedback forms, leave comments on our Social Pinpoint map, or come to public open days at Ōtaki and Te Horo.

You told us that access between communities was important, that you were concerned about safety and speed, and that you would like us to consider walking, cycling and horse-riding in the design. You can see more of what people told us was important to them in our engagement summary.

Agreeing on the scope of revocation work

Before we can start detailed design work on the Peka Peka to Ōtaki revocation project, we need to agree with Kāpiti Coast District Council about what work will and will not be included. This is what we mean when by "setting the scope."

Your comments have given us a great starting point to agree the project scope, but there are some specific follow-up questions we need your help with before we can do so.

Creating concept drawings

Your comments have already helped us get started on some initial concept designs.

The key areas are the commercial zones running through Ōtaki and Te Horo, and how we approach walking, cycling and parking facilities.

There is still a lot of design work to do, and lots of things to consider - safety features, parking, walking and cycling, cost, traffic flows and how all of that fits within the space available

Once we have agreed the scope with Council, we'll work to develop the concept designs, and will be asking for your input to help refine them even further.

There will be plenty of opportunities to have your say as the project progresses, and we are looking forward to hearing from you.
