Marlborough Roads Recovery Update |

Kenepuru Road from Onahau Road to the Heads, and its side roads remain restricted to residents, emergency and essential services. Please note, no work will be carried out at operational sites over the long weekend including Labour Day. Temporary stop/go traffic management will be in place for some of these sites, please plan ahead for minor delays. Work continues at several sites on Kenepuru Road between Onahau Road and The Heads. Daytime closures continue on Kenepuru Road, 20km from the start of the road from Onahau Road, where work on a retaining wall at the Water Tank Slip site is underway. Closures are planned on weekdays from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm, with a 3.30pm finish on Fridays. Moetapu Bay Road remains closed to all traffic from 9am to 3pm, with openings on the hour. Work on a road retreat and drainage improvements on Driftwood Corner is being completed under the closure. Night closures are planned on Ronga Road approximately 10km from the start of the road, from 5 to 7 November, 6pm to 6am. Please see the road closure section for more information. Awatere Valley Road, approximately 2km from Jordan Bridge is open to one lane with a 30km temporary speed limit in place. The new bridge upstream of the current temporary bailey bridge on Waihopai Valley Road is progressing with the bridge superstructure taking form. Please ensure you keep to the reduced temporary speed limits when travelling through worksites to ensure the safety of our crews and road users. We thank you for your patience. Road closures |

Moetapu Bay Road - Driftwood Corner Moetapu Bay Road, 1.6km from the start of the road is closed to all traffic, weekdays from 9am to 3pm with hourly openings. The closures are scheduled for two weeks wher the first stage of work for a road retreat, drainage improvements and road reinstatement will be undertaken. This work will be carried out under stop/go traffic management, outside of the closure times outlined above. Please expect delays. Ronga Road - Night closures Ronga Road, 10km from the start of the road will be closed to all traffic for three nights between 6pm and 6am from Tuesday 5 to Thursday 7 November. These closures are for the installation of a box culvert at this site. Kenepuru Road - Water Tank slip Kenepuru Road from the Onahau Road intersection is closed to all traffic from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm Monday to Thursday. On Friday the closure will be in place from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm. On Friday 25 October the road will open for the day at 12pm for Labour weekend. The closures are planned to resume from 12pm on Tuesday 29 October. The closures are for the construction of a 98m retaining wall at the Water Tank slip site, along with drainage upgrades and road reinstatement. The road closure timings will be reviewed after the first stage of works are completed. Kenepuru Road Restrictions |

Kenepuru Road from Onahau Road to the Heads, and its side roads, Moetapu Bay Road and Te Mahia Road continue to be restricted to residents, emergency and essential services. These roads have severe storm damage and entry into this section of Kenepuru Road is at resident and emergency or essential service drivers' discretion. Residents only are permitted to walk and cycle on roads which are restricted to residents. The following vehicle restrictions remain on Kenepuru Road from Linkwater to the Heads: Vehicle RestrictionsVehicles up to 12.6m in length, and 6 tonne in weight can travel on Kenepuru Road and the following side roads; Mahau Road, Torea Road and Moetapu Bay Road as far as Double Bay Reserve. This allows residents access to boat launching areas at Double Bay Reserve, Torea and Portage. On all other side roads, between Kenepuru Road to the Heads no vehicles over 8m in length or 3.5 tonne in weight are permitted. The following restrictions also apply on Kenepuru Road and it's side roads including Moetapu Bay Road;

Extreme care should be exercised and daylight driving only is strongly recommended. Resident Definition:The definition of a resident, in terms of who is able to access roads restricted to resident and emergency services is; A permanent resident, owner of a holiday home/bach, or the owner of a commercial interest. It does not include visitors who are hiring or renting a holiday home or bach, where rental arrangements have been made through either a property letting agency or directly with the owner. For a full list of what is deemed an emergency or essential service visit the Council's website. Other Recovery RoadsPlease be aware that on all roads, including those with public access, there may be areas of works and traffic management in place. Please expect delays and follow all signage and traffic management. Heavy rain may lead to roads needing to be closed urgently. No matter the status of the road, drive to the conditions. Awatere |
||
Following the wet weather earlier in the month, a large under slip has developed on Awatere Valley Road, approximately 2km from Jordan Bridge. The road is open to one lane with a 30km temporary speed limit in place. Assessments are underway at the site for repairs to be undertaken. Drivers are urged to travel with caution and follow all traffic management signage at this site. |

French Pass |
||
The new retaining wall, 5km from Okiwi Bay on the Croisilles-French Pass Road is taking shape this week. H-Piles are installed and the team has started installing the timber lagging on the face of the retaining wall. The installation of a new culvert has also begun and is scheduled to be completed next week. The traffic lights at this site will be removed once the remedial works have been completed. The installation of a new culvert on Hope Drive, Okiwi Bay has been completed and the site is now ready for reseal. With this work complete, the team has resumed work on Croisilles Road to undertake road drainage repairs and improvements. Work to install a box culvert and MSE (mechanically stablised earth) wall on Ronga Road, 10km from the start of the road began this week. The site has been established, and earthworks is underway for the road retreat. This work will be carried out under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 20 minutes. Kenepuru Road |
||
Daytime closures remain on Kenepuru Road, from Onahau Road, Monday to Thursday from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm. On Fridays the closure will be in place from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm. These closures are for the construction of a retaining wall, drainage improvements and road reinstatement, 20km from the start of the road at the Water Tank slip site. Please refer to the road closure section for further information. Progress continues on the new retaining wall at Water Tank slip. Once the crew completes pile installation along the base of the wall, they will begin installing the timber lagging along the wall's face. Work on the retaining wall near Torea prior to Portage on Kenepuru Road continues this week. Now the walers (horizontal support beams) have been installed, the crew are backfilling the retaining wall in coordination with the installation of timber support poles. Please note we are currently undertaking unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveying along Kenepuru Road. The UAV surveys topographical features of the road and surrounding slopes/slips to inform designs. |

Moetapu Bay |

Work continues on Moetapu Bay Road under daytime construction closures. The works are located 1.6km from the start of Moetapu Bay Road on Driftwood Corner. This week the crew began excavating and removing vegetation. The first stage of this work is being carried out under a weekday road closure from 9am to 3pm with hourly openings. During the closure, a road retreat, drainage improvements and road reinstatement will be completed. Work will also be carried out under stop/go outside of the times outlined above. Queen Charlotte Drive |
||
Progress continues on Queen Charlotte Drive at three operational sites between Tepuia Heights and Whenuanui (Becks Bay). The construction of a new retaining wall has been completed between Momorangi and Ngakuta Bay, with road reinstatement works also completed this week. To maximise efficiency, linemarking at this site will be undertaken at the same time as other sites along Queen Charlotte Drive. Work continues on realigning the road 7km from Picton above Whenuanui (Becks Bay). Crews have excavated the new channel along side the road, the pavement has been reinstated and new sight rails will be installed. Construction on Tepuia Heights began this week. A culvert at the entrance to the road by the creek has been replaced and work to build and plant a willow brush wall has started. These works will be carried out under stop/go traffic management, please plan ahead for minor delays. Please keep to the reduced temporary speed limits when you're travelling through our worksites to ensure the safety of crews and road users. We thank you for your patience. |

Rai Valley |

Work on Opouri Road, Rai Valley is now complete. Two new culverts have been installed, water table improvements have been made, and the road has been resealed. |

Waihopai Valley |
||
The team is making good progress on the new bridge on Waihopai Valley Road as they continue work to install the spans that form the bridge deck, and the guardrails. This week the team has made progress on the new bridge approach, with road realignment from the existing road underway. The current bailey bridge will continue to operate as crews build the new bridge. Please expect increased activity around this area. |
