Summer Term Registration Begins Today
Registration is now open for Summer term in Carleton Central. More details are in the next section below. 

Tax Forms
The Tuition and Education Certificate or T2202 is available to each student through Carleton Central. Students can request a T2202 on the web and print out the document. The printed copy meets all requirements from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). T2202s are not mailed out to students.

Sprott Tax Students' Association Annual Tax Clinic
Worried about filing your taxes this month? Don't be! The
Sprott Tax Students' Association (STSA) is here to help with their annual tax clinic in the Nicol building from Monday, March 24 to Friday, March 29. STSA is now also hosting a tax clinic at the Barrhaven United Church and Riverside United Church! All tax returns are filed at no cost. Fill out the tax clinic's client intake form and the team will review to determine if your tax return is within the scope of the clinic. 

Submitting an RESP Form
If you need a Certificate of Enrolment for your RESP provider, submit requests online
 through Carleton Central (access by logging into Carleton360) by selecting the Certificate of Enrolment Request. You can choose to have your certificate sent to your Carleton cMail address within two working days.

Workshop on New Field Program Safety
Environmental Health and Safety and the Office of Risk Management is hosting a workshop on the new Field Safety Program. Learn about Field Safety Plans that are required for Field Research, Field Courses and Field Trips. Workshop will be held April 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 608 (Senate Hall), Pigiarvik. To register, please visit the EHS Events and Training website.

Nominations for the 2024-2025 TLS Outstanding TA Awards are now open!

Join a Senate Standing Committee
The Senate Office is looking for graduate student representatives to serve on a variety of its Senate Standing Committees. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the governance and strategic direction of our university. All eligible students are encouraged to apply and submit their nominations by March 28.

Teaching Assistants (TA) Pedagogical Hours
All TAs have access to five hours of pedagogical training. Please note, training must be completed before the deadline of March 30 for a full academic year TAship or a winter-only TAship.

Important Registration Information

As the Summer term approaches, registration for new and returning graduate students opens today, March 20. You can now sign into Carleton Central via the 360 Portal  and visit the Registration: Getting Started Screen to view your registration time ticket, your program information, your status and any holds on your account.

Plan your registration by building your timetable and saving draft worksheets in Carleton Central under the Registration section. It is highly recommended that you prepare multiple worksheets as courses may have limited seating and may fill up quickly once registration begins. Having a variety of registration scenarios prepared will help you complete your registration more quickly when registration opens.

Registration remains open as follows:
*until May 9 for early summer courses
*until May 16 for full summer courses

*until July 8 for late summer courses

To aid your registration, visit the graduate calendar program requirements and use your audit to stay on track with course selection and degree requirements. Please contact your Department for specific questions regarding course or degree requirements. Department contact information can be found by selecting the appropriate link on the Graduate Programs page. After completing your registration, it is important that you review your audit. Find your academic audit by selecting the `myAudit' link under the Important Links section in Carleton360, or in Carleton Central under the Academic Progress section. For general information about registration through Carleton Central and how-to videos, please refer to the Registration Steps page. For questions regarding course selection, please contact your department directly. Account balances should be paid in full by the posted deadlines. Payments received after the posted deadlines are subject to late fees and interest charges.

 

 

Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition is on March 27!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) at Carleton is a university-wide competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. Join us to watch fellow students compete on March 27. Details can be found here.

 

 

Upcoming Winter Term Deadlines

For the complete list of dates and deadlines, please bookmark and refer to the Registrar's Office website.

March 20: Carleton Central opens for registration for Carleton University degree students (graduate and undergraduate).

April 1:

Last day for receipt of applications from potential June graduates.

Last day for graduate students to submit their supervisor-approved thesis, in examinable form to the department.

Last day for summative tests or examinations, or formative tests or examinations totaling more than 15% of the final grade, in late winter term undergraduate courses before the official April examination period.

Global Café: March 25 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 482 MacOdrum Library

Join us for Global Café, a community gathering hosted every second week. Global Café is a free drop-in space where you can build connections with other students in a fun and informal setting with engaging activities and warm drinks. All Carleton University students are welcome to attend!

Registration is not required to participate in Global Café sessions. If you would like to receive updates about upcoming session topics, dates, and locations, please sign up at the Global Café webpage.

We Offer Thesis Writing Consultations
Graduate Studies offers one-on-one thesis writing consultations to assist you with any writing challenges you might be facing, answer your questions about thesis writing, or discuss the effectiveness of your writing strategies. The one-on-one writing consultations are meant to assist graduate students who are writing Major Research Projects, master’s theses, or PhD dissertations.

Grammar Foundations

The Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) is offering Grammar Foundations, a self-paced, online program to help you elevate your academic writing. Grad students can access the program through the CSAS Online Resources Brightspace page.

The modules cover:

  • Key grammar points used in academic writing;
  • Strategies for incorporating specific grammar points for more varied and engaging writing;
  • Tips for building academic vocabulary (e.g., Academic Word Lists, Academic Phrasebanks);
  • Interactive exercises to practice grammar in academic writing situations.

Participants will need to adjust the grammar they use based on the specific writing style requirements of their respective academic disciplines.

Amid evolving challenges in higher education, reaffirming our commitment to fostering inclusive and equitable institutions is more important than ever.

The EDID on University Campuses: Under Attack or Empowered symposium brings together a panel of experts from Carleton and other Ontario universities to explore how we can navigate these challenges, bridge theory and practice, and ensure equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization (EDID) remain deeply embedded in our teaching, research, and on our campuses.

This in-person symposium will be held on March 21 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Teraanga Commons.

Science Café – Yeasts at Work: Beer, Bread and Beyond

For centuries, yeasts have transformed our food and beverages by converting sugars into alcohol for beer and wine, as well as carbon dioxide which causes bread to rise. In this Science Café, Biology Assistant Prof. Eugene Fletcher will share his work on enhancing beer flavors to make them taste and smell like tropical fruits. But yeasts can do much more than just helping with brewing. I will also talk about how my research group at Carleton is creating new strains of yeast for various industrial applications. 

This Science Café will be held on March 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ottawa Public Library, Sunnyside branch.

Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation of Canada Scholarship for Canadian Women

The KKG Foundation of Canada fosters and promotes higher education among Canadian women. This scholarship is offered annually to Canadian women who are actively pursuing a PhD.

A minimum of two scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be awarded this year.

Chet Mitchell Memorial Lecture – Canada’s LGBT Purge: Is History Repeating Itself?

Join the Department of Law and Legal Studies for their 2025 Chet Mitchell Memorial Lecture featuring Michelle Douglas, a Carleton alumni and Executive Director of the LGBT Purge Fund. Douglas' lecture is titled, Canada’s LGBT Purge: Is History Repeating Itself?

This free lecture will be held on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 2017 Dunton Tower.
