🌏 Fashion a Better Future This National Recycling Week ♻️

Get ready, Casey! National Recycling Week is almost here, and we’re turning waste into wonder with a jam-packed lineup of events that celebrate sustainability, creativity, and community spirit.

This November, we invite you to join a series of events designed to help you sort your home out and give your waste a second life.

🔌 Textile, E-Waste & Soft Plastics Drop-Off Day
When: Saturday 22 November, 9am–2pm
Where: 30 Vesper Drive, Narre Warren
What: Recycle old clothes, electronics, and soft plastics.
Note: Bookings essential. Household quantities only.

📖 Information Pop Up & Crate Giveaway
When & Where: Tuesday 11 November 10am - 12pm, Lynbrook Community Centre  Wednesday 12 November 10am - 12pm, Cranbourne West Community Hub                      What: Visit one of our community pop up sessions during National Recycling Week for helpful tips and tricks to help you get your rubbish sorted. Take our short quiz and pop into collect your very own Kitchen Recycling Crate to help you get sorted

🧵 Textile Drop-Off 
When: Monday 17 November – Friday 27 November, 9am – 5pm
Where: Community centres in Clyde, Cranbourne West, Doveton & Lynbrook
What: Drop off old clothes, linen, shoes, and fabric scraps (1–2 bags per person).
Note: No underwear, nappies, carpet, or mouldy items.

 

Drop in to the recycle bins at one the four community facilities listed from Monday 17 November – Friday 27 November, between 9am - 5pm.

Celebrate Pollinator Week from Saturday 8 to Sunday 16 November! Join the Australian Pollinator Count and help track the vital insects that keep our ecosystems thriving.

  • Spend just two minutes observing flowers and record all the pollinators you see—bees, butterflies, flies, beetles, and more.
  • Submit your observations to contribute to national pollinator research.

Australia’s Biggest Frog Count

City of Casey’s wetlands and parks are teeming with frog life – in fact, up to 14 of Melbourne’s 16 frog species can be found here. With FrogID Week (7–16 November 2025) around the corner, it’s the perfect time to visit local frog habitats. During this national citizen-science event, the Australian Museum urges everyone to record frog calls via the FrogID app to help track frog populations and environmental health.

Recorded by Jack Eastwood from the Mueller Ranges in WA is the Western Laughing Tree Frog. In 2023, FrogID users across Australia helped uncover this frog species new to science.

You might think this pink, wrinkly little creature belongs in a galaxy far, far away – but it’s actually a Turtle Frog (Myobatrachus gouldii) from Western Australia! 🐸
Thanks to Justin’s 
submission from the outer suburbs of Perth, there are now over 90 recordings of this bizarre and fascinating frog’s call.

Flora and Fauna Spotlight – Jacky Dragon (Amphibolurus muricatus) 

With five rows of spikes down their back these active lizards will often be seen basking and looking out for their next meal from an elevated point such as on logs or rocks.  

These social lizards communicate to each other through a variety of body movements including push-ups, arm-waves, head-bobs and tail-whips.

Join this webinar and learn more about our local mega-bat species, the Grey-headed Flying-fox, as well as the micro-bats that call our city home! Tamsyn from the Fly By Night Bat Clinic will describe the life cycle, habitat and the role bats play as pollinators.

Whether it is through direct or secondary poisoning, this substance doesn’t distinguish between pests and our precious wildlife.

Rabbit Management Field Day 

An action-packed field day is being run by Devon Meadows Landcare, the Victorian Rabbit Action Network and the City of Casey on Sunday 9 November at Botanic Ridge Family and Community Centre

Beginning indoors with a series of presentations from VRAN and other rabbit control professionals the event will then move to a private property in Pearcedale following lunch, for demonstrations of different rabbit control strategies and technologies.

Wildlife Acoustics Grants closes 15 November 2025
This international grant program offers a quarterly grant that supports the advancement of wildlife research, habitat monitoring, and environmental conservation. Grants can be used for purchasing software and products or travel.

Circular Economy Infrastructure Fund (Sustainability Victoria) closes 1 December 2025
This grant supports registered charities to install new, or upgrade existing, battery drop off points and to promote those locations. Funded activities focus on infrastructure purchase and installation at convenient locations and advertising costs.
