Metservice has issued a heavy rain warning to include all of Marlborough north of Seddon until 6pm Friday 27 June. Strong wind watches also apply to the Marlborough region.
The rain could cause surface flooding, slips and difficult driving conditions. NZ Transport Agency are urging drivers to be ready for bad weather driving conditions on the region’s roads. --------------------------------------------------- Due to the forecasted weather, planned works may be postponed at short notice. Daytime construction closures remain in place at multiple locations across the Marlborough Sounds. Please refer to each area's section for further information. Kenepuru:

All work is subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances. In the event of unsuitable conditions, work will be rescheduled to the next suitable workday. New road closures are scheduled to begin in the coming weeks on Queen Charlotte Drive and Moetapu Bay Road. Please refer to the new road closures section below for more information. There are sites under construction in French Pass, on Croisilles Road and Croisilles-French Pass Road, either side of Okiwi Bay. On Queen Charlotte Drive there are multiple construction sites between Momorangi Bay and Whenuanui (Becks) Bay. Please plan ahead for delays of up to 10 minutes at each site in these areas. New road closures |

Please refer to each area's section for information on existing road closures on Kenepuru Road, Tennyson Inlet and Te Hoiere Road. --------------------------------------------------- Moetapu Bay Road From Thursday 17 July, construction closures will be in place on Moetapu Bay Road until late September. The closures will be in place Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 3pm, with openings on the hour every hour. The first closure is located 1km from the start of the road. Once work at this site is complete the closure will move further down the road. --------------------------------------------------- Queen Charlotte Drive Queen Charlotte Drive above Whenuanui (Becks) Bay will be closed to all traffic, from Monday 30 June until Friday 4 July from 8am to 5pm with openings on the hour, every hour to allow the line of traffic to clear. --------------------------------------------------- Port Underwood Road Port Underwood Road on the Waikawa side of Whatamango Bay will be closed to all traffic from Monday 23 June until mid-August from 8am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm. --------------------------------------------------- To view the closure locations, please visit the CDEM map. Outside of the closure days and times, works will be carried out under stop/go traffic management with up to 10 minute delays. Construction is now complete on Croisilles-French Pass Road, 1.5km before the Elaine Bay Road intersection. Sealing was completed last week at the new road retreat site. Line marking and minor finishing works will be completed when weather allows under stop/go traffic management. The crew will now move to Elaine Bay Road, to undertake drainage works early July. Please expect minor delays while this work is undertaken. The road retreat on Croisilles Road near Goat Hill, prior to Okiwi Bay is nearing completion. This week the site was sealed with minor finishing works planned when weather conditions allow. Progress continues at the gully fill site at the start of Croisillies-French Pass Road, just outside Okiwi Bay. Drainage installation is complete, and the site continues to be backfilled in sections. Work for a road retreat on Croisillies Road approximately 2km before Okiwi Bay continues, with material being carted to the gully fill site (mentioned above). Expect a higher volume of truck movements between these sites. Both of the above sites will be under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 10 minutes. Minor works are underway on Bulwer, Te Towaka-Port Ligar and Croisilles-French Pass Road under stop/go traffic management. |

Daytime construction closures are in place on Kenepuru Road at Portage Heights and Island Point. The road closure at Portage Heights is located from Portage Resort for approximately 1km towards the Heads. Excavation and anchor installation continues behind the face of the retaining wall. Closures are in place at the following times:
The Island Point road closure is located from Onahau Road to Tara Bay. Construction of the second retaining wall is nearing completion, with drainage works underway and culvert installation completed this week. Closures are in place at the following times:
Outside of the closures, works will be carried out under stop/go traffic management with up to 15 minute delays. Road users wanting to travel through both road closures at Island Point and Portage Heights during the lunch time opening will need to be at their nearest closure point between 12pm and 12.30pm. Recovery crews will ensure vehicles can pass through all sites without getting stuck between the closure points. Works were completed last week on Kenepuru Road above Mistletoe Bay just past the Onahau Road turn off. Stormwater improvements are nearing completion on Akerbloms Road, Punga Cove. When weather allows, concrete kerb and channel works will be completed. Minor works and culvert installation continues past Kenepuru Heads, under stop/go traffic management. Please expect minor delays. This week the first of multiple culvert installations began on Titirangi Road under resident access only. These works are scheduled to continue until late-August starting at Titirangi Beach and working towards the Heads. Residents should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Temporary traffic lights remain in place at Portage Heights and approximately 500m beyond Nikau Cove (when travelling from Portage). Both sites have a 30km temporary speed limit in place. Please expect minor delays and follow all traffic management signage. |

Crews continued to work on drainage improvements on Te Hoiere Road at the start of this week. Works are planned to resume to complete the improvements and road reinstatement next week under daytime construction closures. The closures will be in place from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday. |

Work continues on multiple sites on Queen Charlotte Drive between Ngakuta and Shakespeare Bay. Progress continues on two sites above Governors Bay. Pavement preparation is underway in the south bound lane where a road retreat has been completed. The crew have started work in the north bound lane. The second site is awaiting pavement preparation when weather allows. 24/7 stop/go traffic management is in place at this site. Good progress is being made on the construction of two retaining walls before Whenuanui (Becks) Bay when travelling from Picton. Excavation for the new walls and drainage work is complete and piles are now being driven as construction of the wall progresses. Please plan ahead for delays of up to 15 minutes at each of these sites. |

Construction continues on Tennyson Inlet Road, approximately 1.5km before the Opouri Saddle for the construction of two retaining walls. Anchor installation continues on the first wall this week, once completed the crew will establish works for the second wall. These works are being completed under daytime construction closures. Closures are currently in place Monday to Friday from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm. From Monday 30 June, two openings will be added at 10am and 2pm. Vehicles must be waiting at the closure point at these times to guarantee access through site. |

Kenepuru Road is open to the public, with overweight and overlength vehicle restrictions in place. Reduced speed limit signage and temporary traffic lights are in place at Portage Heights and approximately 500m beyond Nikau Cove (when travelling from Portage). Both sites have a 30km temporary speed limit in place. Please expect minor delays and follow all traffic management signage. Vehicle restrictions remain on Kenepuru Road from Linkwater to the Heads as follows: Vehicle RestrictionsVehicles up to 12.6m in length, and 6 tonne in weight can travel on Kenepuru Road and side roads. To apply for a permit for an over dimension vehicle to travel on Kenepuru Road, email recovery@marlboroughroads.com or call 0800 213 213.
