ADDRESSING YOUR FEEDBACK FROM OUR MEMBER SURVEY

Dear Members,

I would like to thank each and every one of you for taking time to respond to our member survey in October 2021.

The survey response rate was excellent, with nearly 300 members participating, showing that our members care about Equestrian WA and are passionate about our organisation and our future direction.

The survey has given us a more accurate picture of how you feel about Equestrian WA and to better understand your thoughts about the value for money your membership provides you.

While there was a lot of positive feedback on a range of issues, we recognise that there is room for improvement in a number of key areas when it comes to enhancing your membership experience.

Some of the key issues emanating from the survey include poor experiences during the members insurance claims process, improving the overall value for money of Equestrian WA membership, and improving the delivery of safety and welfare initiatives.

We also received some excellent ideas and feedback from you on how to improve the State Equestrian Centre experience and make it more accessible to as many people as possible.

Nearly 40% of respondents indicated that they live in regional areas of Western Australia. I want to assure our regional members that we are looking at new and innovative ways to maximise the benefit of your membership, particularly given the geographic hurdles you face in accessing the State Equestrian Centre on a regular basis.

Your feedback and comments from the survey are invaluable and will be used as the basis for ongoing discussions between our board, staff and committee members in the future. Continuing to improve on the services and value we offer our members is important to us all and will underpin the future success of our organisation.

We know that another crucial way to further enhance your membership experience is to improve the clarity with which we communicate future aims and strategies of Equestrian WA and the consistency in which we execute our messages.

It is important to recognise that this is a journey and together we will not lose sight of the vital ports of call and the long-term ambitions we are striving for.

From here we plan to:
• Identify wins that will have an immediate impact
• Develop an action plan on the key issues that we need to improve on in the medium to longer term
• Follow through and communicate functional results to you

You are our most important asset, and without you, our organisation wouldn’t exist. That’s why our board, staff and I remain absolutely committed to following through on these issues and striving to deliver the best membership experience possible.

If we continue to work together, we will be taking giant strides to achieving something that we all desire - leaving a legacy to ensure that equestrian thrives as a sport in Western Australia for generations to come.

It’s with all this in mind that we look forward to conducting our 2022 Member Survey later in the year. Further information on this will be provided to all of you closer to the time.

I encourage you to view some of the key statistics, results and data which have been displayed as infographics on the Equestrian WA website.

Thank you again for your feedback and your support of equestrian sport in WA.

Zac Acott
Chief Executive Officer

WHISKERS POLICY

A horse’s sensory hairs may not be clipped and/or shaven or otherwise modified in any way under penalty of elimination from the event.

Individual sensory hairs may be removed by a veterinarian to prevent pain or discomfort for the horse. Areas of hair that must be clipped, shaven or removed to allow veterinary treatment are exempt from this rule.

A phase in period of six months is being introduced to ensure horses are competing with sensory hairs. From 1 July 2022, horses found competing with clipped/shaven/otherwise modified sensory hairs will be issued a recorded warning.
