Update for July 2021

Our work making safety improvements along 15 kilometres of Dome Valley is currently scheduled to be completed in early 2022.

This newsletter brings you the latest news from the project.


	Crew members work on safety barriers while heavy freight keeps moving

	Community drop-in session in Wellsford The project team will be holding a community drop-in session at Wellsford Library on Saturday 31 July from 10am to 1pm. Stop in and see us in the Library’s meeting room, where the project team will be available to listen to your concerns, answer questions and have maps and project information available for discussion. We are looking forward to talking to you and hearing your views about the vital highway safety improvements in the narrow road corridor through Dome Valley. The Library will be open while we are there so there'll be plenty to keep the kids entertained.

Flexible road safety barriers do the job

Recently installed wire rope barriers just north of Warkworth have potentially prevented a third serious injury since the barriers were installed at Easter this year.

In this image it's possible to see a road user has moved into the median and then corrected the vehicle's course on encountering the barrier.

Barriers such as these have proven to be extremely effective in reducing the chances of head-on crashes.


	Connecting SH1 to Puhoi to Warkworth - nightworks Our crew will be conducting night works on the nights of Sunday 1 August and Monday 2 August, weather permitting. These operations, beginning at 6pm and ending at 4am each night, are to carry out investigations to connect the two current major projects on the state highway - SH1 Dome Valley and Ara Tūhono SH1 Pūhoi to Warkworth. Read more about that project here. Work will commence on the northbound side of SH1 south of Grimmers Bridge. Please plan ahead, drive carefully and expect some delays when works are in progress.
