Innovators receive Early Researcher Awards

Four faculty members earned Early Researcher Awards, attracting provincial funding for projects focused on memory, crop vitality and the risks of cannabis-impaired driving.

Researchers discover new mineral uses

Working with Canadian Light Source, chemistry professor Yang Song and his team discovered that applying pressure to the mineral perovskite boosts its brightness and shifts its colour, a breakthrough that could lead to new uses in solar cells, LEDs and semiconductors.

PhD student blends journalism and research

Houda Houbeish, a PhD candidate in the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, is investigating how crisis reporting affects journalists. Drawing on interviews with colleagues in Lebanon, she aims to highlight the human side of the profession.

Why the compliment sandwich doesn’t work

Section of University Drive closed until at least Aug. 28
University Drive will close to motor vehicles and cyclists between Richmond and Sunset Streets Aug. 14 to 28, daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to complete road work related to the new residence building. Pedestrians can continue to use the south sidewalk. For details, visit the Campus Road Closures webpage.

Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars can now apply for dedicated study areas at Weldon Library. Options include privately assigned study rooms or access to the new Graduate Student Commons in the Scholars Lab. Applications are open until Sept. 15.
