New lab to study severe storms

Backed by 60 years of expertise in wind engineering and climate resiliency and a $20-million investment from ImpactWX, Western’s Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory will revolutionize how we understand and prepare for Canada’s most extreme weather.

Researchers target long COVID treatments

A team led by Schulich Medicine & Dentistry professor Dr. Douglas Fraser is conducting the first multi-continental study on long COVID with sites across Africa and the Americas. Their research aims to identify patient subtypes and repurpose existing drugs, in hopes of providing low-cost treatment solutions.

Symphony orchestra: Halloween concert

Enjoy a spooky repertoire with a Halloween-themed concert from Western’s symphony orchestra. Performers will swap out concert attire for Halloween costumes. Talbot College, Paul Davenport Theatre.

Virtual: Rise and shine yoga

Ease into the workday with a little self-care. This 30-minute Living Well @ Western yoga class is available virtually so you can participate from home or campus. Register today.

Speaker series: Environmental injustice and health 

Join colleagues on Zoom for a panel discussion featuring Schulich Medicine & Dentistry postdoctoral associate Danya Carroll, McMaster professor Ingrid Waldron and Shaquille Sealy with ReForest London. A Q&A session will follow the panel. Register online. 

November 6 (7 p.m.) 
The Making of Alma Rosé 

Experience a conversation with filmmaker Francine Zuckerman led by Huron professor Hernan Tesler-Mabé, as part of Holocaust Education Week. Francine will share her insights on the making of her film Alma Rosé, including her interview with Anita Lasker-Wallfisch, a surviving member of the Women's Orchestra of Auschwitz. Register online.

Employee flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinic: Nov. 11 to 14
Cold and flu season is upon us. Beginning Nov. 11, Workplace Health is offering a vaccination clinic for all employees from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Thames Hall Atrium. No appointment necessary. Details can be found on the Human Resources website.  

Office 365 storage reduction information 
Microsoft is reducing storage for Western's Office 365. Over the next few months, Western Technology Services (WTS) will implement changes across Office 365 applications, including reductions in storage for email, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams. Visit the WTS website for more information.  

Track Day for United Way
Walk the purple track, play some lawn games on the stadium turf and join colleagues in support of United Way Elgin Middlesex on Nov. 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium (rain or shine). Enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate and a donut with a $5 donation.
