Biodiversity After Dark
While we often notice birds and butterflies, thousands of species emerge after sunset. Join us this Biodiversity Month to discover the moths, bats, frogs and other nocturnal wildlife that make Casey's ecosystems thrive.
Enjoy a threatened species event at Myuna Farm on Thursday 3 September, the Melbourne Biodiversity Blitz, and a Night Safari with the Entomological Society of Victoria on Tuesday evening 29 September at Morning Mist Recreation Reserve, Cranbourne South.

🐸 Congratulations to Marriott Waters Kindergarten on their refreshed Frog Bog Habitat! 🐸 Thanks to a donation of aquatic and native plants from the City of Casey Sustainability Team, the habitat now offers even more shelter, shade and food sources for visiting frogs. Teachers say the children loved helping to plant and care for the new additions, strengthening their connection to nature while creating a healthier habitat for local wildlife. |

Glass bin = cleaner recycling Casey households will begin receiving the new purple-lidded glass recycling bin from September as Council rolls out the final stage of Victoria's four-bin waste reforms. The new 80-litre glass-only bins will be delivered between 7 September and 20 November 2026, giving residents an easy way to recycle glass separately and help create cleaner, higher-quality recycling. Households that do not already have a food and garden organics (FOGO) bin will also receive one from late November. |
Key changes at a glance

City of Casey residents will receive a 2026-2027 waste guide with their new bin. This is a printed guide, but you'll also be able to access collection schedules, service updates and recycling information through the Bin It Right Casey app ⬆️ and other online tools. Together, these changes will help Casey recover more valuable materials, reduce contamination and support a more sustainable future for our community. |

Bandicoot Bonanza!
Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, 5,000 indigenous plants were planted at Brookland Greens Reserve to support habitat for the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot.
Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and got involved. Together, we're creating a greener Casey and supporting local wildlife for generations to come

Threatened Species Night📅 Thursday 3
September Join us for a unique National Threatened Species Day event at Myuna Farm. Learn about threatened wildlife in our region, take a train ride to see the Grey-headed Flying-foxes at the wetlands, and enjoy a fun cake decorating activity as part of our Threatened Species Bake Off. Gardening Together: kids, dads & grandfathers📅
Saturday 19 September Bring your children and grandchildren (aged 3-6 years) to the Old Cheese Factory for a morning of digging, planting, playing and getting dirty. Grow vegetables to eat, learn about insects, and have fun in the kids' play garden.

Join us on a night safari where we will discover and learn about the moths, spiders and other nocturnal insects that call Morning Mist home. This event will be run by members of the Entomological Society of Victoria and The Arachnid Academy. During this citizen science event we will search for invertebrates in bushland areas and also have moth light sheets setup for people to see what invertebrates are attracted to the light sheets after dark. |

Quick Response Grants Always open
This grant now supports local connection activities that bring people together in new ways. Funding of up to $1,500 is available for community organisations to run small-scale events and activities that encourage participation from the wider community and build new connections between people and groups across Casey.
Conservation & Interpretation Grants (The Copland Foundation) closes 15 September 2026
This grant supports the conservation, research and interpretation of historic houses, gardens, collections and individual objects of significance.
Sprout Grants (Hamer Sprout Fund) closes 30 September 2026
This annual grant supports smaller organisations and projects that promote environmental education, encourage environmental action, support sustainability, and foster collaboration among young environmental leaders.
