As Tāmaki Makaurau prepares to move to Step 2 in the Alert level 3 roadmap this evening, with a further easing of restrictions for Tāmaki-based businesses and some public facilities, the rest of the country will be continuing to look ahead to Monday, 15th of November. Once again, we encourage our whānau and kaimahi to hui and wānanga about this important issue. We have been here before with the Crown and the regulation of ECE, our Wai2336 claim, and now with Covid. We have lost people along the way, but we will gain people as well. Kōhanga Reo will find a way and we can still tautoko, no matter which stance we choose to take. As we have stated before, the support of the Kōhanga Reo National Trust for the vaccination is ultimately for the health and safety of our mokopuna, whānau, and kaimahi and to protect our most vulnerable. Tomorrow will have another kōrero from our Podcast Series “Whaioranga” where Tahuri will be talking with Te Tai Tokerau District Manager, Bina Hepi, about the 1918 Spanish Flu and its effects on Māori. On Friday, 12 November, Andrew Hema, HR Manager for Te Kōhanga Reo National Trust, will talk about how the vaccine mandate impacts Kōhanga Reo from an employment perspective. This will be scheduled for 2:30pm and will also be available for viewing later. Kāti ake ki konei, kia piki te ora. Current Situation A reminder that Tāmaki Makaurau moves to Alert Level 3, Step 2, from 11:59 pm tonight, 9 November. Upper Northland will shift to Alert Level 2 at 11:59 pm this Thursday. The rest of Aotearoa will remain at Alert Level 2 until every DHB has reached the 90 percent milestone for second-dose vaccinations. Today, there are 148 new cases in the community: 117 in Tāmaki Makaurau, 2 in Waikato, and 6 in Northland. This brings our total community cases in the current outbreak to 4,666. Fifty-nine of today’s new community cases have yet to be linked, and forty-nine of yesterday's cases were potentially infectious in the community. There are now 79 people in hospital, with nine in ICU/HDU. The average age of the current hospitalisations remains at 51. Five of today’s Northland cases were announced yesterday afternoon and have been added to today’s tally, which brings the total to six. The additional case is a contact of a previous case and all of which are currently isolating at home. The MoH urges people who reside in or around Taipa, Kaingaroa, Awanui, Kaitaia, and Kaikohe, to get tested if they have had any symptoms in the last two weeks. One of today’s two Waikato cases was a known contact already isolating in Hamilton, and investigations are ongoing to determine the link for the remaining case. Two locations of interest were identified in Hamilton yesterday, so please continue to regularly check the Ministry of Health’s list of locations of interest to determine whether you may have visited any exposure sites. The Statistics / Ngā Tatauranga Yesterday, there were 21,192 vaccinations administered across the motu: 5,103 first doses and 16,089 second doses. To date, 89 percent of New Zealanders have received their first dose and 79 percent are fully vaccinated. Vaccination Rates of Eligible People by DHB (with active cases) Northland DHB: 81% first doses and 69% second doses Tāmaki DHB: 92% first doses and 84% second doses Waikato DHB: 88% first doses and 76% second doses Canterbury DHB: 93% first doses and 79% second doses Māori Vaccination Statistics to Reach 90% Second-dose Ref: Ministry of Health For the Māori roll-out, 425,891 (75%) of our whānau have received one dose, and 328,380 (58%) are fully vaccinated. Kōhanga Reo Can increase bubbles to 20 mokopuna, as long as they can operate within the public health measures. For more information on increasing bubble sizes, please refer to pānui no. 72. Parents must wear masks during drop-off and pick-up. Kōhanga Reo kaimahi, including any contractors/volunteers who are in regular contact with tamariki, must get tested every seven days until they are fully vaccinated. The testing options are a nasal or throat swab once a week, or a saliva test twice a week with at least two days between tests. Provide your education SURV code to the health professional who is taking your test, which for Kōhanga Reo is: SURV-ECE. For more information on testing, please refer to yesterday’s pānui. Tangihanga/Viewing a Tūpāpaku At Step 2, up to 25 people can attend a tangihanga or view a tūpāpaku. The 25 person limit does not include the kaikaranga, kaikōrero, members of the clergy, or staff who are attending. This means you can have a total of 30 people at a tangihanga – 25 guests and 5 staff. You can serve food or drink, but guests must be seated to be served. Tikanga Haumaru – Level 2 Basic Guidelines
