Long-term stabilisation work underway at Omoto

Waka Kotahi the NZ Transport Agency and KiwiRail have begun the next stage of stabilisation work on SH7 at the Omoto East landslide site.

The long-term remediation work involves installing 86 piles in two rows through the slip below the railway line, to support the road and rail above.

Piling contractors started work on site last week and work is expected to be completed by April 2020, subject to favourable weather.

The Omoto section of SH7 is an active work site and short delays could be possible – we appreciate your patience in the meantime.

KiwiRail and Waka Kotahi are continuing to work together on long-term remediation at the site to ensure resilience of the link connecting the West Coast, including the TranzAlpine passenger service.
