The Environment and Community Fair is here!

Get ready for the Environment and Community Fair at IndigiScapes, starting at 9 am tomorrow!

Costa, the gardening guru, joins Ranger Stacey on the main stage for a lively Q&A followed by a workshop on growing delicious edibles.

  • Eco workshops
  • Unique stalls to explore
  • Live music for a fun vibe

Say goodbye to your aquarium responsibly

Aquariums offer a captivating glimpse into underwater ecosystems. However, there may come a time when you decide to bid farewell to your aquatic companions or plants.

Whether it's due to a change in interests, space constraints, or other reasons, it's essential to part ways responsibly.

Here's how you can ensure a smooth and eco-friendly transition for your aquarium inhabitants:

Dos:

  • Pass it on: Consider giving away your unwanted aquarium, fish and snails to friends, local aquarium societies, or fellow fish enthusiasts. Find them a new home where they can thrive.

  • Seek assistance: If you're unable to find someone to adopt your fish or snails, reach out to the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for guidance on the correct disposal methods. They can provide valuable advice on handling and disposing of aquatic life responsibly.

  • Dispose properly: When removing plants from your aquarium, dry them thoroughly and place them in a bag before disposing of them in the wheelie bin. Proper disposal prevents the introduction of non-native species into the environment.

Don'ts:

  • Avoid dumping: Refrain from emptying your fish or tank contents into creeks, waterways, drains, or dams. This can introduce diseases into natural habitats and severely impact native aquatic plants and animals.

Stay vigilant:

If you suspect someone is improperly dumping aquarium contents, please report it by contacting the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries on 13 25 23.

By following these simple guidelines, you can bid farewell to your aquarium companions, while safeguarding the delicate balance of our aquatic ecosystems.

Nature's Calendar: Slow down for wildlife

As it gets darker earlier, animals like wallabies, echidnas, koalas and possums are moving around sooner. With these animals more active during twilight hours, navigating our roads becomes increasingly hazardous.

Join Ranger Stacey on this episode of Nature's Calendar as she shares invaluable insights into safeguarding our wildlife.
