We're writing to let you know about upcoming resilience works on the Remutaka Hill road. From Sunday 16 May to Friday 4 June, you'll need to plan ahead for three weeks of works.
Several high priority sites have been identified that require urgent works to improve long-term resilience and prevent slips so the Remutaka Hill road can remain open following significant rainfall events.
Our crew will be building new retaining walls, adding new culverts and expanding capacity for existing culverts to manage stormwater drainage.
The Remutaka Hill road will be closed from 9pm to 4am each night and under stop/go traffic management at all other times during weeks 1 and 2 below:
Week 1: From the night of Sunday 16 May to the afternoon of Friday 21 May
Week 2: From the night of Sunday 23 May to the afternoon of Friday 28 May
Week 3: From Monday 31 May to the afternoon of Friday 4 June, stop/go traffic control will be in place during the day and the road fully open during the night.
The 5-night Remutaka Hill road maintenance closure that was scheduled to start 13 June has been moved and will take place within the first week of the May closure instead.
Travel arrangements during night closures
Travel arrangements for traffic during the night-time closures - Sunday 16 May to Friday 21 May, and Sunday 23 May to Friday 28 May - are as follows:
