The Latest Groom News: Community Updates and Events! It's been a busy month in the Groom electorate! Here's what has been happening👇 1. New policy to support farmers, households & small business This month, the Coalition announced we will stand up for Australian small businesses, farmers, and consumers by delivering stronger penalties for anti-competitive behaviour and price-gouging in the supermarket and hardware sectors. The time for this policy has come. As the Deputy Chair of the House Economics Committee and here locally in our community, I've seen what happens with the lack of market competition. Competitive markets benefit everyone, giving you lower prices, creating more employment opportunities for Australians and getting the best possible deal for farmers. 2. Community BBQ Thank you to our wonderful community members and small businesses for coming together to make our community BBQ such a great event. A special shoutout to the Bakers Duck, Betros Brothers, Blooming Gorgeous, Fitted Beard Grooming, George Banks, GF Oats Australia, Graziers Daughter, Hopscotch Gin Distillers, Luminosa, Meadows By the Sea, Meringandan Pub, Middle Ridge Golf Course, Oakey Beef, OMG Decadent Donuts, People’s First Bank, Picnic Point, Pittsworth Confectionery, Rosalie House, Shell’s Kitchen, Six of One Coffee Roasters, The Linen Chest, The Storeroom, Toowoomba BBQ’s & Fireplaces and Von Katz Soaps for putting smiles on faces with their generous contributions to our raffle! 3. Telecommunications Forum We had a fantastic session at our recent telecommunications forum, filled with insightful discussions and valuable information. A big thank you to everyone who attended and a special appreciation to the representatives from Telstra, the NBN, and the Regional Tech Hub for their expertise and insights. 4. Talking about the issues that matter! Fantastic to join David Janetzki, State Member for Toowoomba South, for a community forum at Glenfield Grange Retirement Village. We were welcomed by the wonderful residents who joined us for a lively discussion over a cuppa. It was great to answer their questions and talk about the issues that matter most to them. Thank you to everyone who came along! 5. Working for you! There are so many great opportunities for our region to capitalise on. With over 5 billion dollars of infrastructure funding that we secured under the previous Coalition government, it’s important our three levels of government work together productively to make the most of it. 6. Delivering for Groom Our local community groups do incredible work, and I’m dedicated to supporting them. It was great to catch up and celebrate the federal volunteer grants we've secured, and see how they’re helping our local organisations.
Thank you to all of our volunteers for the amazing work you do! 👏 7. School Visits It's always a pleasure to have a chat to the bright young minds in the Groom electorate. I recently popped out to Kulpi State School to answer some hard hitting questions on our democracy, parliament, and of course, fishing! The school's P&C has recently received a federal volunteer grant for a new laptop and square eftpos terminal - perfect for all their great events and meetings. 8. Bringing the office to you! Thank you to everyone who came for a chat at one of my 'Politics in the Pub' nights or Mobile Offices in Toowoomba, Pittsworth, Oakey or Goombungee this month. I am always listening, and you can let me know which issues are important to you via my survey here 👉 https://www.garthhamilton.com.au/get-in-touch/survey/ You can also keep an eye on my Facebook to see where I'll be next! As always, please let me know if I can assist you with anything. I will keep on listening and working for our community, and continue to advocate for our region in Canberra. Kind regards, Garth Hamilton MP Federal Member for Groom |
