Thank you - the works are now complete

We would like to express our thanks for the understanding shown by local residents and people passing through the area on bikes and on foot over the last six weeks. Projects on busy urban roads are always difficult - they affect people’s travel and they affect local residents. With over 36,000 vehicles a day on average passing Duncan Maclean Link on St Lukes Road some works could only be done at night when lanes could be shut and traffic detoured. We did as much of the noisy work during the day as we could and apologise to those who were affected by the works that had to be done overnight.

Safer journeys

The now-completed works close a missing link in the cycle network, safely connecting St Lukes Road to the Northwestern Cycleway and Great North Road, and to places like the Auckland Zoo, MOTAT, Western Springs Park and Western Springs College. They also deliver a safer west-east crossing for Northwestern Cycleway users. The project is part of the work Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is doing to create safe options for walking and cycling in our cities, in collaboration with partners, like Auckland Transport and Bike Auckland, and local communities.

Safety for all road users, including people on foot and on bikes, is a priority for Waka Kotahi. These upgrades will significantly improve safety at the busy St Lukes Road intersection, as well as the Duncan MacLean Link intersection.
