Campus Ave. Construction and Bus Stop Impacts
Campus Ave. is closed to traffic between Rideau House and the Nicol Building due to a watermain replacement. Pedestrians can use the sidewalks on the east side of Campus Ave. (closer to O-Train tracks). OC Transpo stops on Campus Ave. are temporarily relocated to University Drive. Project updates and completion dates are 
shared on the Facilities Management and Planning website.

Sept. 30 Marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day is 
an annual day of remembrance to acknowledge the history and lasting impacts of residential and day schools. Join Carleton’s Every Child Matters Flag Raising on Wednesday, Sept. 30 from noon to 1 p.m. at the flagpoles on Library Road near Azrieli Theatre.

Teaching Assistants (TAs)

Teaching Assistants can access information and training resources here.  

If you are a new Teaching Assistant this term, we strongly suggest beginning by completing the TA Basics module on the TA Pedagogical Training Hub, as it explains the paid TA training details and more. Completing it also counts towards your paid pedagogical training hours.

Update Your TA Profile
All Priority Teaching Assistants can update their TA Profile immediately after accepting their TA award through the 
TA Management System in Carleton Central.

As these profiles are used to determine appropriate and relevant assignments, it is important to fill in and keep your information updated. 

 

Funded Research Visit to the University of Murcia for Doctoral Students

PhD students in any field are invited to apply for a funded research visit at the University of Murcia under the Erasmus+ program.

The program provides funding for the flight and a monthly allowance for a 3-month visit during the spring/summer of 2027. Applicants can choose their own advisor or be matched with one based on their research area and topic. A list of PhD programs at Murcia is available here.

New at Carleton: the Carleton University Black Graduate Student Coalition (CU-BGSC)

This new coalition is currently working to build a community that connects Black graduate students across Carleton and increases the visibility of Black student success in higher education.

"Our goal is to create a network that supports graduate students through community building, mentorship, networking, advocacy, and partnerships, while also celebrating Black identity, culture, and excellence within Carleton and the broader Ottawa community," says co-founder Roqeeb Akinbile.

Upcoming Deadlines

Sept. 30: Last day to withdraw from full fall term and fall/winter courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal). Withdrawals after this date will create no financial change to fall term fees and will result in a permanent notation of WDN appearing on your official transcript.

Oct. 1:

  • Last day for academic withdrawal from early fall courses.
  • Last day to request Formal Examination Accommodation Forms for Oct./Nov. early winter fall examinations to the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities. *Note: it may not be possible to fulfill accommodation requests received after the specified deadline.

The academic dates and deadlines are prescribed by the University Senate. These dates are available at the University calendar website. Dates relating to fee payment, cancellation of course selections, late charges, and other fees or charges are available at the Student Accounts website.

Film Studies 50th Anniversary!

Join Carleton Film Studies for an evening of reconnecting, remarks, and a free screening of I Like Movies (Chandler Levack, 2022) — a film that ends, happily, at Carleton.

Celebration will be held at Ottawa's Mayfair Theatre on Oct. 1. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. Anniversary remarks will be made at 6:15 p.m. followed by the free screening (content advisory: themes of suicide and mental distress) at 6:45 p.m.

The Community Healing, Rebuilding and Belonging Task Force is seeking community feedback as it works to identify what we can do collectively build a truly inclusive Carleton. A list of upcoming consultation sessions can be found online.

Registration for general and focused sessions is now open. Participants for invite-only sessions will be contacted separately by their units.

Feedback can also be provided by completing an anonymous online consultation form or emailing the Task Force co-chairs. 

 

 

Author Meets Readers Event Today! The Record Keepers: Digging for Stories in Canada's Record Stores

The Record Keepers takes readers on a cross-Canada journey through the country's record stores, sharing the remarkable stories of the owners and collectors who keep vinyl culture alive.

Written by Prof. Josh Greenberg, the book features inspiring tales of independent retailers, community builders, and music lovers from coast to coast. Greenberg's own lifelong passion for records helped inspire this exploration of Canada's music scene.

This in-person event will be held at Irene's Pub Restaurant on Sept. 24 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

PhD Student Angela Ching with Dr. Maryem Hoyek

Bruin Lab Research Published in Nature Communications

Research from Carleton’s Bruin Lab in the Department of Biology—including PhD student Angela Ching—​​​published in Nature Communications, has uncovered a previously hidden link between environmental pollutants and impaired insulin secretion. The findings open new avenues for understanding how environmental exposures may contribute to metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. Read the article here.

New Family Room
The
MacOdrum Library Family Room is now open next to the Book Arts Lab in ML 234H. This room is a dedicated space for students, faculty and staff who are caring for children while studying in the library and features workspaces for adults, books, toys and activities for children, a private nursing/feeding area and child-friendly decor and furniture.
