Six new Canada Research Chairs

As Western’s first Canada Research Chair in Music, Inclusion and Accessibility, professor adam patrick bell is sharing approaches to stamp out ableism in the design, development and teaching of music education. He is one of six Western professors named to the prestigious program who are tackling topics ranging from machine learning to climate resilience.

CFI funding fuels five research projects

Western researchers Christopher Guglielmo and Yolanda Morbey received a funding boost to help expand the Motus wildlife tracking system in hopes of understanding how animal behaviour and migration patterns are impacted by population and climate change. The project is one of five awarded a total of $14.7M from the Canada Foundation for Innovation.

Students honoured with Flight 302 Legacy Award

Health sciences PhD students Olayinka Ariba and Wisdom Avor are among the inaugural recipients of the Flight 302 Legacy Award. The award honours the 157 victims of the Ethiopian Airlines crash and supports university and college students focused on humanitarian work and environmental preservation.

Startup raises $2M for cancer care robotics system

Tenomix Inc., a medical technology startup founded by a group of fellows after completing The Medical Innovation Fellowship program (MIF), has secured more than $2M to develop a robotics system that could revolutionize colon cancer treatment.

Eclipses

Visit the Cronyn Observatory to look through telescopes, talk to astronomers and ask questions about the total solar eclipse coming up on April 8. Eclipse viewing glasses will be available at the event. No registration required.
