Winter Break is Almost Here!
The winter break is a great time to rest, rejuvenate and regroup for the remainder of the term. With midterms coming up, it’s important to be prioritizing both your coursework and your wellness. Carleton has many resources to help you stay on track and ensure you're taking care of your well-being.
During the winter break, the university is closed on Monday, February 20, 2023, for the Family Day holiday. Classes are also paused from Tuesday, February 21 to Friday, February 24, 2023, but campus remains open.
Resources to Support Those Affected by Earthquakes
Carleton is concerned to learn of the devastation caused by the major earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria. We extend our sympathies to those experiencing fear and stress and to those who have lost loved ones.
Any member of the community who is affected or needs support can access resources at Carleton.
Valentine’s Day: Consent, Sexual Health and Substance Use
Valentine’s Day is almost here! Whether you love using this holiday to profess your love to your significant other, or you dislike ‘Hallmark holidays’ in general, it provides an opportunity for the community to discuss consent, sexual health and substance use. There is harm reduction information and resources available to you both on- and off-campus as a Carleton student.
RISE's Black History Month Programming Underway
Join the Racialized and International Student Experience Centre (RISE) during their Black History Month campaign, the Black Times: a North American Experience. Events are taking place all month long!
There's still time to catch Snatched: a Conversation Around Identity Within the Hair on Thursday, February 16, 2023, as well as Understand the Arts: a musical event with two headline acts, merchandise from Black creatives and an opening speaker on the importance of highlighting the North American experience, happening on Friday, March 3, 2023.

Join Us in Celebrating the Nideyinàn Building
You are invited to celebrate the new name of the Nideyinàn building (formerly known as the University Centre) on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Carleton is situated on the traditional, unceded and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Nation. In an effort to embody a significant territory acknowledgement in a meaningful way, Carleton engaged in a thorough consultation with the Algonquin Advisory Council and Algonquin communities in the region to name this central and high-profile facility which is the crossroads of all campus activity. The new name Nideyinàn (pronounced nih-DAY-in-nahn) translates to “our heart.”
Now Accepting Nominations: Serve on Carleton's Senate
Have your say in the academic governance and future of Carleton University! The Carleton University Senate is now accepting nominations for undergraduate students from all faculties to serve on Senate for a one-year term, beginning Saturday, July 1, 2023. The Senate is the highest academic body in the university, responsible for academic decisions of significant importance to both students and faculty.
To apply, or for more information on the nomination process including eligibility requirements, visit the Senate webpage. Deadline for nominations is Friday, March 3, 2023.
Registration for the Virtual Spring Career Fair is Now Open
The Virtual Spring Career Fair is coming up on Wednesday, March 22, 2023! Familiarize yourself with a variety of hiring organizations to get a sense of who’s hiring, what employers are looking for and which organizations may be a good fit for you.
Learning and Writing Support Workshops and Events
Join the Centre for Student Academic Support (CSAS) for one or more learning and writing support workshops and events this week! Sessions include: Strategies for Writing Academic Papers, Effective Planning and Time Management, Passive vs. Active Voice and Preventing Procrastination. Students can also book one-on-one Writing Consultation services, or drop-in on Thursdays between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Life Skills 101 Podcast Returns!
The Life Skills 101 Podcast is returning for 2023, with a new lineup of episodes being released throughout the winter term. After listening to an episode, students who complete a podcast reflection will be entered into a draw to win a $25 top-up toward their Campus Card. Check out the first episode, featuring Undergraduate Recruitment Officer Stenley Philippe, as he shares his advice on how to make the most out of campus life and university resources.
Fall Orientation 2023 - Volunteers Needed
Be part of the best two per cent of the year by joining the Fall Orientation team. Fall Orientation volunteers are integral to a successful Fall Orientation Week, running Sunday, September 3 to Friday, September 8, 2023, as Carleton welcomes new students to the community. Applications for leadership positions are due by Friday, March 17, 2023.
Nominate a Carleton Woman for National Women’s Day
On International Women’s Day (IWD) on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, Carleton University is recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of amazing women in our community.
Help showcase examples of leadership, achievement, positive change and hard work by nominating a Carleton woman — student, faculty, instructor or staff member — and have your shout-out appear on the university’s IWD webpage. Submit your nomination online by Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
Reminder: Carleton’s Emergency Notification System Test on Tuesday, February 21, 2023
A test of Carleton’s upgraded Emergency Notification System (ENS) will be conducted on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at approximately 1:15 p.m.
The test will include three types of notifications: campus computer screen messages, emails sent out to all Carleton University addresses and a push notification through the new Carleton Mobile app.
To ensure you receive ENS alerts on your mobile device, please download the Carleton Mobile app on the Apple App Store or Google Play and ensure you enable notifications under your mobile device settings.

CUSA Awards applications are now open! Each academic year, CUSA gives out 19 awards in six categories.
Nominate yourself or someone else using the online forms by clicking on the award and scholarship names. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

The Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA), is looking for its next vice-presidents. The roles are full-time over the summer and part-time through the academic year, and serve CUSA’s events, clubs, student development, policy and advocacy goals, working closely with the university.

The Summer Session is Almost Here!
While it's still cold outside, you may want to start thinking about summer session courses. The summer session is a great time to catch up or get ahead on your studies and this year we made it easier for you to start planning earlier.
The summer schedule is now available through Carleton Central (by logging into Carleton360) and registration instructions are up-to-date for the 2023 summer session.
Registration for the summer session begins Thursday, March 23, 2023 for degree students and Monday, March 27, 2023 for non-degree students.
