Latest NewsFashion industry leaders, retailers, and NGOs are embarking on a unique journey to Australian cotton farms, leaving behind their urban offices to gain first-hand insights into sustainable cotton production. The Camp Cotton event, which is organized by Cotton Australia, will bring approximately 60 delegates from major fashion hubs like New York, London, Milan, and Hong Kong, as well as representatives from local brands, to learn about Australia's sustainable cotton practices. Cotton Australia have been working with ‘George the Farmer’ creator Simone Kain to film a new farming adventure about Australian cotton. The episode, which was filmed in Wee Waa on Daniel Kahl’s property earlier this week, will be broadcast on George the Farmer’s YouTube channel and other social channels including Facebook. Cotton Australia’s General Manager Michael Murray has joined more than 100 senior leaders for a 2-day summit in Sydney hosted by the Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA). Mr Murray used the event to highlight the need to focus on actions that lead to genuine environmental outcomes and support investment in a wide range of complementary measures, as a very real alternative to additional water recovery. More than 80 growers turned up recently for the Dryland Cotton Research Association’s (DCRA) dryland field tour near Moree. Ian Gourley a Narrabri cotton grower and President of the DCRA told the attendees about the importance and benefits of being myBMP accredited. Cotton Australia’s senior policy Manager for Northern Australia Simone Cameron has hosted a visit by Federal Senator’s Jacinta Nampijinpa Price and Susan McDonald to the Katherine Cotton Gin. Cotton info has highlighted that feral pig numbers in parts of NSW have exploded and crop damage is impacting many crops including cotton crops, particularly in the Gwydir. Applications are now open for a range of educational scholarships to attend the biennial Australian Cotton Conference in 2024. The conference, which will be held 6 - 8 August on the Gold Coast, offers an excellent opportunity for students and educators to deepen their understanding of the cotton industry, explore career pathways, and network with industry leaders. Cotton Australia has launched the ‘Click 24’ Photo Competition inviting growers and others to take photos that portray their life thereby telling their own unique stories while dispelling myths around cotton growing. The competition empowers growers and rural communities to share their stories in a visual way, and in doing so showcasing the dedication, innovation, and hard work inherent in the industry.
