President's MessageGary Thompson, DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline), President
Here’s wishing all of you a happy new year and with the change of the
calendar year, we have had some changes with ABVP leadership. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Jon Townsend for his service to ABVP over the past years. He had the unfortunate distinction of being President during a turbulent time to say the least and handled everything the pandemic and hurricanes threw at him with grace, humility, a steady hand and even a good sense of humor. Words can’t express my gratitude and respect for all he has done over his term as President and I consider it one of my greatest professional honors to have had the good fortune of serving with him. I know he is still enthusiastic to serve ABVP going forward and I’m sure we’ll find plenty to keep him busy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Jon.
I also look forward to the coming year for ABVP. The Symposium Committee (thank you Regents and especially Dr. Carondelet Nollner and Marisa) for all of the hard work getting us to the finish line in Chicago. We have our largest slate of Hands-on Workshops this year that will give everyone a chance to roll up their sleeves and fine tune skills that virtual meetings simply can’t compete with. The venue on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago is center of everything downtown Chicago has to offer and I for one am beyond excited at the prospect of seeing everyone again-safely of course!! With that in mind, our hotel partners, Marisa and the Symposium Committee are doing everything to ensure a safe and enjoyable Symposium for everyone in attendance. Our strategic plan from this summer’s meeting is starting to take form and
we will be working to implement some of the recommendations over the coming months to improve our organization, so stay tuned... If you ever considered volunteering within ABVP, let 2022 be the year. There are a number of committee positions available as well as spots on the Board of Directors (see additional information below). Please contact your Regent or me with any questions you may have. With this being the middle of ski season, I wish you fresh overnight snow and bluebird skies every day. For the warm weather people or winter-haters-well I’m not sure what to wish since I can’t relate, but I wish you well too. Until next month!
