Next steps and timing

NZTA intends to lodge the statutory approval applications with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in late 2025, to consent the project and designate the corridor via the Fast-track Approvals Act.

Together, those approvals will enable NZTA to construct the project in stages as funding is made available.

Once NZTA has lodged its application, the independent panel appointed by the EPA will then invite affected parties to provide comment on the application.

If you have any questions about the process, check out the consenting pathway overview or get in touch with the project team.

Landowners

The project team have been meeting with landowners of properties within the proposed project corridor. A project corridor is the area that we expect a project to be constructed within, in the future.

If you have received letters from us – or if you’re unsure and would like to check – please get in touch with the project team using the contact details below.

Westgate station update

Westgate Station is taking shape as the next construction phase begins, following bulk earthworks and retaining wall installation.

The new bus station which will be at the heart of the northwest public transport network, connecting customers with local and express services to and from the city centre as well as around the north west.

The station will replace temporary on street bus stops and provide a safe, sheltered environment for passengers. It is designed to accommodate increased bus volumes and enhance service quality, security, and comfort.

Construction of the station building and its connections to local roads is expected to be completed by mid-2026 and then handed to Auckland Transport to operate services.

Aerial photo of Westgate Bus Station works currently underway.
