Rachel Lawson, Fellow and Director of Development and Alumni Relations THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING![]() ![]() FRIENDS OF CORPUS CAROL SERVICEIt was a pleasure to welcome current students, their friends and family, alumni and others from around our community to the Friends of Corpus Carol Service in Chapel on Sunday 8 December. The service was led by Chaplain Revd Dr Matthew Bullimore, and featured the superb Corpus choir, led by Director of Music Nick Danks (m.1993). After the service, attendees enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies in the OCR/NCR, and a speech from College President, Professor Chris Howe. CAROLS IN THE CITYAttendees were treated to a special evening of carols and readings in the magnificent St Mary Abchurch in the City of London. The programme included a number of classic carols with audience participation, such as Hark the Herald Angels Sing and O Little Town of Bethlehem, but also a number of sublime choir carols, including two from the Welsh composer William Mathias, and a unique version of Ding Dong Merrily on High arranged by Director of Music Nick Danks. ![]() IMPACT REPORT 2023-2024OUR THANKS TO YOUWe are pleased to confirm that the latest edition of the Impact Report (2023-2024) will be published early in the new year. In this publication you will find an update on the College's pivotal Bridging Course, fundraising and special projects news, and further information on ways that both gifts of time and money are making a difference to our community. Once published, the Impact Report will be available to read here. TOP FUNDRAISING GOALS FOR 2025![]() PERMANENT FUNDING OF BRIDGING PROGRAMMEFollowing the successful pilot of the Bridging Course and the positive impact of the other projects forming the overall Bridging Programme, we plan to endow this work to secure its place at Corpus in perpetuity. We aim to raise £3 million in 2025 as part of our first phase of fundraising. HAROON AHMED MEMORIAL FUNDWe have created a new memorial fund in honour of Professor Haroon Ahmed, former Fellow, Warden of Leckhampton, and Master. Reflecting Haroon's commitment to student support and widening participation, the Haroon Ahmed Memorial Fund will, in the first instance, support an annual award to a promising undergraduate in a STEM subject. The fund is now open for donations and our target is £150,000 in the first phase of fundraising. You can make a gift now to the Haroon Ahmed Memorial Fund via our website. Or contact us for further information. ![]() STUDENT NEWS![]() FOUNDATION SCHOLARS RECOGNISEDCongratulations to our Foundation Scholars who were recognised for their academic excellence at the recent Commemoration Service. The Foundation Scholarship is the highest honour which the College awards to undergraduates in recognition (and open celebration) of academic distinction. These Scholarships were established by Matthew Parker in 1548. Read more STUDENTS ENJOY THOMAS-MOBBS AWARDS DINNERLast month, Pauline Thomas and Steve Mobbs (m.1976) met Corpus students who are recipients of the Thomas-Mobbs awards for dinner. Pauline and Steve made a ten-year gift for awards to ethnic minority students. The occasion affords students and donors time to get to know each other and share experiences, and for career mentoring and advice. ![]() ![]() LAUNCH OF THE HAROON AHMED SOCIETYThe Haroon Ahmed society is for students, staff, Fellows and alumni who have an interest in fostering a diverse community for those from multicultural and underrepresented backgrounds. It is named after Professor Haroon Ahmed, the former Master of the College and first British-Pakistani Master of an Oxbridge College. The society had a successful launch this term and is still looking for alumni to get involved. Interested? There was a mix of undergraduate, Master's and PhD students. As always, it was lovely to see and meet with proud family and friends. ![]() 'BOOK OF KINGS' RETURNS TO THE PARKER LIBRARYDirector of the Parker Library, Professor Philippa Hoskin, curated a special exhibition of Arabic manuscripts for a visiting delegation of Uzbek academics. Amongst the manuscripts was a 17th century copy of the illustrated manuscript of the Shahnama ('Book of Kings'). Read more NICHOLAS BACON LAW FUND NAMES NEW CHAIRThe Nicholas Bacon Law Fund has welcomed a new Chair of Trustees, Lord Edmund Fetherston-Dilke (m.1988) following the retirement of Lord Mark Bridges (m.1973). The Fund was set up in 1998, following the introduction of tuition fees, primarily for the support of those studying or wishing to study law at Corpus, to alleviate financial hardship. Read more ![]() ![]() NEW BURSAR APPOINTEDThe College has appointed Mr Richard Leather as its next Bursar. Richard joins the College from The Møller Institute, where he has been Director and CEO since April 2020. The Bursar is an important position in the College, responsible for all the financial and other non-educational aspects of the College’s operations. Richard will take up the post on 1 February 2025. AMY GILLILAND (M.1996)We also spoke with Amy Gilliland (m.1996) about joining Corpus on a scholarship from the United States Naval Academy, and her memories of the College. Amy is the president of General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics Corporation.
