Fall NewsletterWelcome to the fall term, and welcome to our 17th cohort of Master of Digital Media students and our 7th cohort of Pre-Master of Digital Media students! We were thrilled to return to welcoming our new students onto campus in person, during our annual orientation week. Lots of changes are happening around the campus! If you missed the announcement, Departure Lounge launched Canada's first Metastage in The Hangar earlier this year, and is already doing revolutionary things in the space. Our neighbourhood continues to be transformed by the Broadway Subway Project. The first tunnel boring machine (TBM) has been launched from Great Northern Way, which is a critical milestone in the project and begins the next phase of construction activity. On your next visit to the campus, you may see many new faces, including our new Director of Programs and Innovation, Mary Lim. Check out our staff page to learn more about the current CDM team. Our admissions team is prepared to evaluate a new round of applicants for the Master of Digital Media and Pre-Master of Digital Media programs. CDM + Ethọ́s Lab Receive Higher Ed XR Innovation Grant from Unity & Meta PartnershipThe Higher Ed XR Innovation Grant will provide over $1 million in awards to higher-education institutions leveraging real-time 3D and immersive technology to make advances in teaching and learning, XR creation, and workforce development. Ethọ́s Lab and CDM aim to take a collective step to increase the representation of Black youth and girls in XR-based digital futures through the development of an XR Media Lab program. Have an idea, and need a team of innovators and tech experts to build it?Student-led project teams are the heart of the MDM program. Every year, industry clients partner with multidisciplinary teams of 4-6 students over 12 weeks to develop customized solutions to real-world innovation challenges! From Southern Africa with DreamsEach Master of Digital Media student cohort brings unique individuals with their own exceptional stories to tell. A recent MDM student shares his journey to the MDM program and Vancouver, and where he is now. CDM in the NewsAs part of its strategy to support the creative industries, the Embassy of France in Canada, in partnership with the Alliance Française de Vancouver, Art of Festivals, and Centre For Digital Media, developed a digital simulation (“serious game”) to explore the skills and strategies needed to create and manage future artistic production and presentation venues. On-Campus CollaborationsV-Unframed is an immersive digital art exhibition in Vancouver that showcases artworks from local and international artists. The 2022 edition took place from October 1st to 3rd, welcoming more than 450 attendees at Centre for Digital Media to question the impact of societies on our planet and how humanity should learn from these challenges to reconnect with Nature.
