Updates

 

SCVO Free HR & Employment Support – free support and guidance to all Third Sector organisations.  Queries can range from policy/contract templates to reducing jobs within an organisation.  Contact via email hremployment@scvo.scot or through the online webform and SCVO will triage and process the query, either answering via email, or invite you to a 1-2-1 phone or video call of up to 30 minutes to discuss further. They can also refer SCVO members to their pro bono legal advice service - however you do not have to be a SCVO member to access the HR & Employment support service.

 

Tourism & Heritage

 

The key emerging themes from last year’s Outdoors Scotland Tourism Strategy consultation sessions are available to view on their project web site.   

Last year Falkland Stewardship Trust took part in the Power of Place Learning journey with organisations from across the world. the next programme begins on March 24th and will open for applications on 31st January.  For more information see here.  

Read Ninian Stuart’s Blog What leadership & teamwork skills do we need to weather the storms ahead? marking a decade since a major storm that blew down some 10,000 trees in the Forest of Falkland and led to the community  making the most of their windfall, regenerating a more resilient forest, creating art and ceremony to reflect on loss, trauma and storms.  

In March 2021, the Friends of The Pipe Factory CIC bought the B-listed industrial heritage building as a creative community hub for The Barras / Calton ward in Glasgow.  The partnership, including INCH Architecture + Design, Strangefield and the Articulate Cultural Trust, aims to raise the £2.5m needed to fully refurbish the interior and exterior of the former five-storey clay pipe factory.  In the meantime the spaces, though raw, are completely authentic and untouched, with great light and local amenities, are available to hire for photoshoots, filming, recording, rehearsals, workshops, etc. with all proceeds going to the running and renovation of this much-loved site in Glasgow’s East End.  Contact: hire@friendsofthepipefactory.co.uk 

Equi-Power Central Scotland RDA Group is aiming to #StartSomethingSpecial for disability access in the Central belt in 2022.  Read more about their ambitious plan to build a purpose designed RDA centre of excellence in Stirling and support their Crowdfund here.  

Plate Up For Glasgow, a pilot project in showcasing tangible, sustainable change in tackling food waste, have published their insights and learnings.

Creative and Cultural Skills Fair Access Sector Support training programme, funded by Creative Scotland. Based on their core package of Fair Access Sector Support and tailored for Scotland’s cultural sector, the sessions are designed to empower employers to adopt inclusive and lawful recruitment practices which both support sector growth and develop a more diverse range of talent, strengthening the principles of fair opportunity as part of Scotland’s Fair Work Framework. Impact Arts are offering a Free training programme to harness local talent and build community capacity in North Ayrshire. Submissions are open for the Youth Film Access Festival 2022 which will celebrate a range of short films made by up-and-coming filmmakers. Everyone, regardless of background, age or filmmaking experience is invited to enter. Submit your short film by 5 January 2022 at noon on their website.

This is a casual monthly meetup for creatives, techies, makers and freelance folk interested in finding out more about what's happening in Edinburgh.
