Story

With the holidays only days away, our construction team will be taking advantage of the Christmas/New Year rail shutdown in Wellington from 26 December through to 10 January.

We'll be working up and down the shared path during this time, including rounding out some work on the bridge at Ngā Ūranga.

Please remember that even if our worksite appears to be inactive, you must stay out as it is still an active construction site. There'll be vehicles or machinery operating over summer, as well as other hazards, and having people onsite presents a risk to their safety, as well as the safety of our workers.

Check out our latest project update below.

Year in review

As we begin the final leg of construction on Te Ara Tupua, we thought we’d take this opportunity to look back on what’s been achieved on the project this year.

With over 405,000 working hours spent on this project this year, we have some pretty big achievements to celebrate. This includes:

  • placement of the last concrete XBloc® unit
  • finishing the six seawalls, including the habitat screens.
  • demobilising much of our large construction equipment
  • installing all of the bridge units across the rail line
  • moving the Tāwharau Pods to their final location, and
  • installed all Gobi® block paving in Honiana Te Puni Reserve.

We've included some other photo highlights below. You can also watch our latest project flyover on YouTube.

What's to come next year

There's still a lot to do in 2026. Over the coming weeks/months our focus will be on:

  • ducting for utilities
  • fencing and lighting work
  • laying the pavement surface
  • planting and landscaping
  • finishing the shared user bridge at Ngā Ūranga, and
  • installing artwork.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation as this work progresses.

Tupua Horo Nuku: project update

This has been an immense year of progress over at Tupua Horo Nuku – the Hutt City Council resilience project located in the Eastern Bays, being delivered by Te Ara Tupua Alliance.

Across the 4.4km project, we have completed 4.2km of the seawall and 3.5km of the shared path, leaving us in a strong position as we head into 2026. Four of the six bays are now open for public use, and we are on track to complete the project in the first half of 2026.

Check out our latest flyover video to see our current progress.
