2021 EWA Annual Elections

2021 EWA Annual Elections for the Board of Directors and Sport Committee Representatives for the period 2022 to 2024

The EWA Annual Election will be held on Tuesday 9th November, 2021 closing 11.59pm.

Nominations for the Board of Directors and Sport committees will OPEN 2 September, 2021

Nominations for the Board of Directors and Sport committees will CLOSE 30 September 11.59pm.

EWA is calling on members for nominations for positions on the EWA Board of Directors and Sport committees that are vacant at the end of the 2021.

This is the first year that the elections will be held under the new Committee By-Laws and is a great opportunity for individuals to have an opportunity to ‘put back’ into our sport.

The Board of EWA and the Sport committees have worked tirelessly to support our sport and the State Equestrian Centre during times of a challenging 12 months.

Our sport is built on the support of volunteers – many of you have the ability to make a positive difference to our sport. The Board and Sport committees require leaders – if you are willing and able, please nominate or if know of someone who has qualities that will provide leadership to our sport, please approach them and suggest they nominate.

New ideas are the lifeblood of good Committees – we need passionate people to provide leadership and ideas.

Whilst there are only a few positions on the various committees being open to election, all Committees also have some opportunities for appointing committee members, so those who are nominated and may not be successful in the election may be offered an appointed position – again these are not ‘closed shop’ positions – they are genuine positions to ensure there is a good balance of skills and representation on the committees. Nominations for appointed committee members will be called for following the elections.

We have a strong sport that is once again growing, please consider helping us to make the sport successful into the future.

ALL FORMS and further information can be found - HERE

All Nomination forms to be sent to ceo@equestrianwa.org.au

Nominations close on 30 September 2021.

Talking Horses 91.3 Sportfm, Wednesday 8th September between 6 and 7pm

‘Talking Horses’ on 91.3 Sportfm -  Special Guests on Wednesday 8th September between 6 and 7pm will be the Royal Agricultural Society Councillor in Charge of ring events Andrew Williams and leading WA National carriage driving coach and judge Marg Langan.

Marg has been involved in educating, showing and breeding a variety of breeds including American Saddlebreds and Hackneys and other different horse breeds. She has held a number of Carriage Driving committee positions at Federal, State and Club level, as well as the RAS and Arabian Horse Societies.

As a business owner working in the equestrian industry most of her free time is given to judging or coaching at various carriage clubs across Australia and overseas. She has judged twice at the Sydney Royal Show and also judged at the Adelaide Royal Show.

The Councillor in Charge of Ring Events  - Andrew started volunteering at the Perth Royal Show in 2006 as Marshal for the horse section.  In 2008 he became a Councillor and after a number of years working in other sections, primarily cattle, he returned to horses where he became assistant Councillor for horses in 2018 and then Ring Master in 2019.

Outside of the Royal Agricultural Society, Andrew has had a widely varied career and is currently working for Uniting Care West.   Although he has ridden horses in the past, his current passion is cycling.

The 2021 Perth Royal Show will be different, in terms of what’s happening, but also the physical footprint of the grounds. For horses this means no breed classes and restricted hacking. Show Jumping, Pony Club and Carriage Driving will still be going ahead.

Due to the current Covid-19 situation there may be caps on attendance of the Perth Royal Show each day - so make sure you get your tickets soon!

Have you read this: EA Health and Safety Progress Update August 2021

Equestrian Australia (EA) aims to provide a healthy and safe environment (competition and training) to protect riders, horses, coaches and officials.

Since 2019, EA has done a lot of work in the health and safety space. We have developed, and continue to...read more - HERE

New Dates for Concussion Training for Coaches, Officials, OCs and Clubs

EA - Health and Safety Survey

Calling all coaches, officials, organising committees, EA affiliated clubs and schools, show societies and commercial affiliates; we want to hear your thoughts.

If you fall into one of these groups, the EA National Safety Manager would like to hear your thoughts and feelings about your Health and Safety needs for equestrian sport.

You are invited to participate in a short survey that will take approximately 5-10 minutes.

We know everyone has different opinions, values and beliefs about what health and Safety means to them, so this is your chance to have your say.

Your response will be anonymous and we do not collect identifying information such as your name, email or IP address.

All data collected for this survey will be stored at EA’s National office and all results will be analysed as a group.

Thank you in advance for participating in this valuable survey, let’s continue to strive to improve our sport together.

STATE EQUESTRIAN CENTRE - SAFE WA QR REGISTER

Just a REMINDER that anyone attending the State Equestrian Centre will be required to register their contact details upon arrival to the facilities, from Saturday 5 December 2020.

Download the Safe WA app on your phone prior to arriving at the SEC and Scan the QR codes which will be at entrances around the buildings.

Get the app HERE

If you don’t have a mobile phone a manual form will be available.

From Saturday, 5 December 2020 the Western Australian Government will be implementing a stringent COVID-19 contact tracing procedure. This is in line with the State’s relaxation of the hard border policy.

Selected businesses and venues are required to keep a contact register of ALL visitors. This includes indoor sporting centres, entertainment venues and community facilities. Equestrian WA has sought clarification on equestrian venues and have been advised that most facilities will be required to participate in the mandatory “SafeWA” QR contract tracing register.

The same hygiene, social distancing and COVID Safety Plan measures remain in place for all venues. We have again reviewed and updated the following documents to support the gradual restart of the equestrian activities in WA.

EWA gratefully acknowledges the support of the Department of Sport and LotteryWest.
