Thank you to everyone who attended our first ‘Meeting the Moment’ Regional Member Gathering in Toronto* last week which included a thought-provoking presentation on how to safeguard Canada’s future. Delivered by Lisa Lalande, participants held stimulating discussions on the role of philanthropy in a time of economic and geopolitical
uncertainty, on strengthening Canada’s social fabric amid rising polarization, and on safeguarding Canada’s democracy & civic engagement. On the context of US-Canada relations, their impact in Canada, to help inform our sector in "meeting the moment": _______________________________________________________________________ Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience's latest report entitled "Addressing the Digital Skills Gap in Canadian Nonprofits: Outcomes of Prototyped Solution Pilot" shares the findings from the final phase of the Futureproofing the Community Service Workforce project. New Power Labs and Definity Foundation's new Diversity Geomap Dashboard helps you explore the sociodemographic diversity of communities across Canada and can help with informing fundraising, assessing impact, and supporting advocacy efforts. It uses data from the 2021 Census. Aqueduct Foundation's Malcolm Burrows' post in All About Estates entitled "Founders: the good, the innovative, and the toxic" argues that all stakeholders should be aware of the Founder's Syndrome dynamics. Maytree's report "Seniors’ poverty in Canada: Why it exists and why it doesn’t have to" highlights that, despite a generous and targeted income security system for seniors, 430,000 live in poverty. According to its findings, increasing the Guaranteed Income Supplement, relaxing residence requirements, and improving access would allow all seniors to live in dignity in Canada. The latest national survey (2024) on race relations released by the Canadian Race Relations Foundation and the Environics Institute, which shows that public attention to racial issues has in fact subsided a bit since 2021, but the overall picture
remains essentially unchanged is highlighted in "Now is not the time for Canada to walk away from diversity, equity and inclusion". Philippe II de Gaspé Beaubien (1928 – 2025) - Philippe II de Gaspé Beaubien, co-founder of the de Gaspé-Beaubien Foundation, a founding member of PFC, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, at the age of 97 after a full life dedicated to family, friends, community, meaningful work, and a deep spirituality.
A funeral will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral. To register, click here.
