Outcome of SH16 speed review

We are emailing you about the outcome of our SH16 Brigham Creek to Waimauku speed review, and to let you know about changes to speed limits on this road.

Last year we invited feedback in our formal consultation process for the speed review on SH16. We have considered information gathered through consultation alongside our technical review process, and our decision is to implement the proposed speed limit changes, as detailed in the table below.

We appreciate the time that those of you spent providing your feedback as your insights gave us valuable information to ensure speeds are safe and appropriate for the state highway and everyone who uses it.

These new permanent speed limits will take effect from Monday 7 September 2020. Closer to this date we will advertise these speed limit changes more widely so people are aware that new speed limits are coming into force.

SH16 safety improvements - bridge work is underway

If you have been driving between Waimauku and Huapai recently you may have noticed our scaffolding canopy that has been erected on the southern side of Berry Bridge crossing the Ahukuramu Stream.

Our construction partners, Fulton Hogan and Aim Contracting, have been busy undertaking preparation works for the upcoming bridge widening as part of Stage 1 of the State Highway 16 Brigham Creek to Waimauku safety improvements project.

These enabling works are the first step in delivering significant safety infrastructure planned safety improvements to make this part of the highway safer for all road users of this part of the highway.
