The events run over the summer holidays and at venues throughout the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Bring your skates, skateboard, scooters, bikes and helmets, borrow one from us. Volunteers should meet at the car park on the corner of McAlister and Beach Streets by 8am and wear gumboots or other sturdy footwear. All equipment is supplied. ![]() Tuesday 16th January 10am-12pm - Kids Nature Discovery Walk Discover the amazing sights and sounds of our local Fairbrother loop track in Ōhope Scenic Reserve. Learn about our local kiwi population and their predators along with a nature hunt, bug hotel hunt, rope scrambling, native tree discovery, and bird identification! This will be an interactive and fun two-hour session aimed at younger children aged 5 to 10 years. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and a maximum of four children per accompanying adult is recommended. Spaces are limited, book NOW! ![]() Thursday 18th January10am-1pm - Kid's Kiwi Tracker Walk We will commence our walk at Burma Road, making our way into the bush en route to our education whare. Throughout the walk, you'll gain insights into our local kiwi population, their predators, and the methods we employ to monitor and trap these pests. Upon reaching the whare we will have lunch and engage in some fun activities including the compass challenge, invertebrate investigation and bird identification before heading back to Burma Road marking the end of the walk. This will be an interactive and fun three-hour session aimed at individuals aged 10+ (the presence of an accompanying adult is recommended but optional) Spaces are limited, book NOW! Summer at Wharfside![]() IT'S BACK FOR ANOTHER ACTION-PACKED SUMMER! Wednesday 27th December - Sunday 14th January - Summer at Wharfside: Pop-up activity hub Wharfside, the pop-up activity hub for locals and visitors alike, is back and running through summer at Port Ōhope. Bring your family and friends and enjoy this great harbour-side spot. We will have a pop-up isite Visitor Information Centre operating to give you all the inspiration and help you book to make it an epic Eastern Bay summer. VMAC Rides eScooters and eBikes and SUP Hire are back, giving people the chance to explore Ōhope and Ōhiwa Harbour on land and sea. Keep an eye out for the food truck village regularly onsite too, with a great variety of meals for you to enjoy. Mata Beer will have a pop-up bar from December 27th too. Open daily from 12:00pm till 8:30pm for three weeks, as well as the weekend days in January, including Auckland Anniversary weekend. They are bringing their fabulous live music as well! This multimedia retrospective draws a singular reference to the Ten Commandments, serving as a metaphorical framework and echoing the multiple directives that colonial powers have historically forced upon indigenous peoples.
