The 2025 Australian cotton industry awards are now open with growers and other industry figures encouraged to nominate themselves or someone else to acknowledge and celebrate the innovation, excellence and sustainability that Australian cotton is now known for around the globe. Cotton Australia is celebrating a new partnership with one of the country’s most prominent rural and regional clothing brands. The partnership with RB Sellars will be officially celebrated at two special events in Toowoomba on March 13 with young growers the focus of an industry forum and an in-store event at RB Sellars, in Toowoomba. Cotton Australia General Manager Michael Murray has been working with Queensland’s new State Government, meeting key ministers and attending the 2050 Agriculture Blueprint Forum. The focus has been on keeping agriculture profitable, with further discussions at a QFF dinner and council meeting. The NSW Irrigators Council (NSWIC) held its General Meeting in Sydney this week, marking a leadership transition as Moree cotton grower Jim Cush stepped down as Chair after six and a half years. He was succeeded by Lachlan Valley irrigator Tom Green. Better Cotton and Cotton Australia recently hosted a webinar to explain how, from this season, growers can trade physical Better Cotton bales using the existing Better Cotton Platform. The Better Cotton Traceability Team discussed the initiative and answered grower questions. Emerald Christian College students recently visited a local cotton farm to learn about the crop’s growth, while Teach the Teacher events will begin in Moura, Central Queensland next week, with more dates announced.
