Cotton Grower of the Year Field Day 2025

Dirranbandi hosts its biggest cotton field day

More than 300 people travelled to Dirranbandi in Western Queensland this week for the Bayer Grower of the Year Field Day. 

It was one of the largest agricultural events ever held in the region, attracting cotton industry participants keen to learn from the 2024 award recipient Scott Balsillie, farm manager for Eastern Australia Agriculture in Dirranbandi.

Reducing red tape for family farms

Cotton Australia is working with the Qld Farmers Federation and the Qld Small Business Commissioner (QSBC) to reduce red tape for small businesses and family farms.

The QSBC is seeking examples of Queensland government laws, policies, processes, or practices that are overly complex, time-consuming, costly, offer little value, or are duplicative, along with suggested solutions.

Mel Swift from the Macquarie Valley in the Central West of NSW has a unique position as the first Better Cotton-funded myBMP sustainability implementation officer.

The role helps growers begin, develop and complete their myBMP certification process, ultimately resulting in myBMP certification after a compliance audit.
