Have you applied to a fund that we've highlighted or used advice and guidance we've shared in one of our newsletters? Have you come along to one of our training courses, forums or networking events, or contacted us for support with volunteering, fundraising or charity governance? Have you received volunteering enquiries through our volunteer finder service? Whatever the nature of your contact with us - we want to hear about your experience. Your feedback is valuable - please take our short survey and share with your colleagues. There's a chance to win £50 for your organisation. Feedback helps improve our service; for example, it's been used to shape networking events and deliver specific training.
This month, we're highlighting some of the positive developments in North West Surrey, plus our packed autumn events programme, which has much to offer.
Thank you to Arora Charitable Foundation We are delighted that our Spelthorne Time to Talk befriending service has received a £5000 grant from the Arora Charitable Foundation's Small Grants Programme. The grant will support the delivery of our befriending service, helping to reach lonely and isolated people in the Spelthorne area. We are very grateful to the Arora Foundation for their generous support.
The Arora Charitable Foundation is a relatively new funder. Their Small Grants Programme offers grants of up to £5,000 to charities, CICs and community groups based within five miles of one of an Arora hotel, including London Heathrow and Englefield Green, making it particularly relevant for organisations in Spelthorne and Runnymede. The next round of the Small Grants Programme opens on 1 September 2026 and closes on 9 October 2026.

West Surrey Alliance Board Sets Out Plans for Neighbourhood Health Transformation Fund The West Surrey Alliance Board has been considering plans for a £2.4 million investment in neighbourhood health delivery across West Surrey, designed to improve health outcomes, reduce health inequalities and help more people receive care closer to home. The funding will support a programme of work focused on three priorities:
The proposals build on existing partnerships between primary care, community providers, mental health services, social care and the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, with the emphasis on integrated neighbourhood working. The programme aims to identify and support people most at risk of worsening health, including older people living with frailty, care home residents, people with multiple long-term conditions, housebound patients and communities experiencing health inequalities. A significant element of the proposed investment is focused on prevention and tackling health inequalities. Plans include expanding community outreach, improving access to screening and vaccinations, and strengthening partnerships with VCSE organisations through a dedicated prevention and early detection programme. The proposals also include a community health inequalities programme that would be developed jointly with Surrey County Council, health partners and local charities and community groups. The neighbourhood health programme will begin implementation later in 2026, with partners working together to develop and deliver services that improve prevention, reduce avoidable hospital use and support healthier communities across West Surrey.
Have your say: VCSE Commissioning Framework and refreshing Surrey's Compact Thank you to everyone who attended the recent engagement event on developing a new VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) Commissioning Framework and refreshing the Surrey Compact. The discussions generated valuable insights and highlighted the importance of working together.
All feedback received through the survey will be carefully reviewed and considered alongside insights gathered through previous engagement activities. Your input will play an important role in shaping future proposals and ensuring they are practical, meaningful and effective in supporting partnership working across Surrey.

Important Change to DBS Requirements for Volunteers Working with Children From 1 September, volunteers working with children under the supervision of a paid member of staff will now need an enhanced DBS check. Any volunteer who teaches, trains, instructs, cares for or supervises children on more than three days in a 30-day period, or on an overnight basis, will need an enhanced DBS check, regardless of whether they are supervised. Occasional volunteers, such as parents helping at a one-off PTA event or a school day trip, are not affected.
Engaging Communities in Health Guide Published NPC has published a new guide which brings together insights from people working across the health, research, and voluntary sectors. The guide aims to share learning in a clear and practical manner and will be a useful resource for organisations working in community engagement.
