Supported by the LCANZ's College of Bishops, Australian Lutheran College has developed a one-off accelerated ministry pathway to prepare candidates aged 40 to 55 for possible ordination as general ministry pastors in 2027. Offered in response to the church's pastoral supply challenges, the course will involve two years of intensive study and fieldwork scheduled over 48 weeks each year and be followed by an in-service transition period. Australian Lutheran College has launched its 2024 annual appeal. This year’s appeal is twofold: a call to support the college financially as it trains and prepares people for service in Christ’s mission and a heartfelt plea for more students. Feedback from church members has been critical in helping to refine the LCANZ’s Way Forward framework to go to General Pastors Conference and General Synod for deliberation and vote later this year.
While we frequently hear about wars in Ukraine and Gaza, there are terrible conflicts the world seems to have forgotten, including in Myanmar. However, our Lutheran Church is serving on the frontline there through Australian Lutheran World Service, and a new 5:1 matching grant is set to multiply the impact of that work. Read more

General Synod delegate updates and nominations reminder
With the LCANZ Convention of General Synod now less than four months away, it’s time to check that your congregation and delegate/s are up to date with preparations for this important churchwide event. This includes notifying the LCANZ of your delegate/s 'details, even if they are continuing in the role. It is also time to submit nominations for positions on the church’s boards, councils, commissions and committees, which must be done by 30 June, including for those wishing to continue in the same role.

Information about accommodation, transport, dining, and things to do in Adelaide has been prepared for delegates and is available on the LCA website Synod webpages. It can also be downloaded as a PDF.

In the lead-up to the LCANZ's Convention of General Synod in October this year, we want to keep you as up-to-date as possible with critical information before, during and after this important churchwide gathering. Therefore, we're adjusting the publication dates of The Lutheran for the next few editions. The October–November edition will be mailed out in late October to include convention coverage.
