QEII Drive further piling and wall reconstruction

From next week, we will be removing the wall panels for the QEII Drive bridge abutments. This is so further piling work can happen. After the piling work is complete, we will reconstruct the wall panels and start building the bridge.

Because some of this work is close to QEII Drive we need to work at night, stopping traffic on QEII Drive in both directions for about five minutes at a time as each panel is removed. We plan to start the night work on Wednesday 7 August and expect to be finished by 16 August.

Additional ground improvements (piles) are needed because the ground conditions along QEII Drive have proven to be even worse than expected. Adding more piles now will ensure this structure is resilient and will last.

Lane closures on SH1 southbound - Sunday and Monday nights

Further work to widen SH1 southbound between the Waimakariri Bridge and the Western Belfast Bypass is about to get underway. To do this we need to install steel safety barriers and prepare the site for the earthwork crews. The right side southbound lane on SH1 will be closed between 6pm till 5.30am on Sunday night 4 August and possibly Monday night 5 August.
