Te Anau Airport Manapouri Update
October 2025

Momentum Builds Across Aviation, Tourism and Infrastructure

Scheduled Charter Flights Locked in Through 2027
The Airport Governance Group, supported by Great South, has confirmed a robust schedule of ATR charter flights into Te Anau Airport through to 2027 and beyond. This sustained commitment is a major win for Fiordland’s high-end tourism sector, ensuring reliable access for discerning travelers and reinforcing the region’s appeal as a premium destination. Year to date total landings recorded are 1,777 as at end of September 2025.

Helicopter Operations Expand with Heliworks Base
In a boost to aerial tourism and logistics, Heliworks has committed to establishing a permanent base at the airport. Their presence adds another experienced operator to the mix, enhancing connectivity to Fiordland’s world-class natural attractions and strengthening the airport’s role as a hub for scenic and charter helicopter services.

Growing Interest in Leases and Investment
Private and commercial interest in hangar space and airport leases continues to grow with new inquiries pointing to a rising appetite for aviation-related investment. This trend bodes well for the airport’s long-term viability and its potential to attract further commercial activity.

Airport Masterplan Under Expert Review
The Airport Masterplan - which includes provisions for private hangars, commercial hangars, residential hangar homes and on-site solar arrays - is currently under review by aviation specialists. The outcome will shape a refreshed blueprint for sustainable and scalable airport development.

Runway Resealing Scheduled for November
Infrastructure upgrades are also on the horizon, with runway resurfacing scheduled for November. This will deliver a uniform surface texture, restore skid resistance, and be followed by the application of new aviation markings, ensuring safety and compliance for all aircraft operations.

Fiordland Aviation Event 2026 Gaining Traction
Planning for the 2026 Fiordland Aviation Event is accelerating under the guidance of the Te Anau Events Charitable Trust, local aviators, and the Great South Te Anau Events Team. Coordinated by Glyn Saunders, the event promises to be a landmark celebration of aviation in the region. A funding application has been submitted to the Tourism Events Fund, with further details to be announced soon.
