Study NSW news and events Empowering futures: NSW alumni event in Shanghai showcases NSW education and inspires career growth Investment NSW's recent alumni event in Shanghai attracted over 200 attendees, including representatives from 11 NSW universities. The event featured Ross Aloisi, former Australian soccer player and current assistant coach of Shanghai Port, and a panel discussion on employability challenges for returning alumni, emphasising the value of their NSW study experiences in securing career opportunities. The event also launched a mentorship program with CPA Australia, aimed at supporting alumni in China's job market. Nominations for the 2024 NSW International Education Awards close on Tuesday 6 August 2024. Bolstering NSW education and research partnerships with VietnamNSW Minister for Industry and Trade, Hon. Anoulack Chanthivong MP visited the Ho Chi Minh City campus of Western Sydney University, met with the University of Technology Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology Joint Research Centre and toured the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute. Minister Chanthivong emphasised the growing educational and research collaboration between NSW and Vietnam, highlighting that 35 NSW educational institutions and businesses were scheduled to attend the NSW Education Showcase in Vietnam in September 2024. Industry news and opportunities Workplace experience survey for studentsThe Migrant Justice Institute has launched a national survey to improve working conditions for migrants and international students in Australia and prevent modern slavery. This survey allows international students to recommend improvements to Australian laws and policies for safer and fairer working conditions. It's open until 31 August 2024, and the Institute has provided images and text for dissemination to your students. Applications are now open for the Australian EMI teachers’ training showcase in Taiwan In November 2024, Austrade and the Australian Government Department of Education will host an English Medium Instruction (EMI) Teachers’ Training showcase in Taiwan. Selected participants will have their travel, accommodation, and speaking fees covered. Australian EMI instructors can apply by 16 August 2024. Government programs and updates Changes to onshore student visa applicationsThe Australian Government has announced additional reforms to the student visa program. Starting 1 July 2024, holders of certain visas, including Visitor and Temporary Graduate visas, will no longer be able to apply for Student visas while in Australia. Student visa applicants with a genuine intention to pursue studies in Australia will still be able to apply for a Student visa from offshore (outside of Australia). Austrade invites education providers to participate in Mongolia education fairAustrade Mongolia is organising the Study Australia Education Fair on Sunday, 15 September 2024. Through dedicated marketing and promotional activities, Austrade aims to attract high-quality students interested in studying across various sub-sectors offered by participating institutions in Australia. This initiative aims to gather input on how to improve regional migration settings to support strong and sustainable regions, complementing existing government initiatives.
