PFC 2021 Annual Report

Read in our latest Annual Report about how 2021 allowed PFC's team, members and partners to build a stronger network amidst the lingering pandemic.

"2021 was also our first full year with a new purpose statement. With a fresh focus on advancing an inclusive network concerned with equity, learning and responsibility, members and partners large and small engaged with us in remarkable and transformative ways."

Policy Update

Bill C-19, the Government of Canada's Budget Implementation Act 1, received royal assent on June 23, 2022 and passed into law. Among the many policies included in this bill was a new set of rules regarding partnerships between charities and non-qualified donees. To learn more, check out our recent member advisory from June 1, as well as our policy update from June 21.

A Vision for the Future Series: Aneil Gokhale

Community foundations are crucial to communities. Aneil Gokhale from Toronto Foundation talks about their unique role in this last episode of our limited podcast series featuring a few key players from Canada's philanthropic community.

"Prominent foundations and local community groups
need to be much better connected."

Aneil is the Director of Philanthropy at Toronto Foundation, a position he has held for five years, where he focuses on providing opportunities for all to engage and to be more strategic with their philanthropy. He is also the chair of the Membership and professional advisors Committee for the CAGP Greater Toronto Chapter.

The other podcast interviews feature Paul Nazareth, Jean-Marc Mangin, Justin Wiebe.

A Vision for the Future Series:
Ruth MacKenzie

Ruth MacKenzie also shared her understanding of where our sector is today, what its role is, and where we need to go.

(...) "we need to evolve away from a donor-centered mindset
towards a community-centered culture."

Ruth MacKenzie is the President and CEO of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and Executive Director of the CAGP Foundation. Previously Ruth was the President & CEO of Volunteer Canada. As a committed volunteer, she also currently serves as Chair of the Board of CanadaHelps. As a life-long activist, Ruth has also worked to facilitate change and build a more ethical, inclusive society through engagement on Indigenous issues, anti-racism/anti-fascism movements, and through alternative and community-based media.

Actions in response to the invasion

The role played by philanthropy in times of humanitarian crises is as much a demonstration of human ingenuity as it is one of care and solidarity. As in response to other devastating crises such as the Syrian civil war and the war in Afghanistan, Canadian philanthropy has quickly mobilized its efforts and resources to support Ukrainians affected by Russia’s illegal invasion.

The PhiLab team shares its overview of actions taken by Canadian philanthropy in response to the war in Ukraine.
