We Offer Thesis Writing Consultations
Are you currently working on your master's thesis or PhD dissertation and looking for writing-related support? Graduate Studies offers one-on-one thesis writing consultations to assist you with any writing challenges you might be facing, answer your questions about thesis writing, or discuss the effectiveness of your writing strategies. The one-on-one writing consultations are meant to assist graduate students who are writing Major Research Projects, master’s theses, or PhD dissertations.

Provide Feedback on the Draft Coordinated Accessibility Strategy
After consulting with the Carleton community throughout fall 2024, a draft of the renewed Coordinated Accessibility Strategy is now available. We encourage all members of the Carleton community to review the draft strategy and provide feedback and comments through the consultation website, by participating in a consultation session or by emailing AccessibilityStrategy@carleton.ca. Feedback is welcome on any aspect of the draft strategy and will continue to be collected until Friday, March 7.

MacOdrum Library: AI Tools Now Available in Scopus and Web of Science
The library provides Carleton users with access to 
new generative AI search and chat functionality in both Scopus and Web of Science with features that provide additional capabilities for exploring, analyzing and visualizing research. If you have questions or feedback on these features, please contact: collectionsfeedback@cunet.carleton.ca.

Compete at This Year's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition! It’s Not Too Late to Enter!

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) at Carleton is a university-wide competition for graduate students in which participants present their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges. It will take place on March 27. For more info, please visit the Carleton 3MT website.

 

 

Upcoming Winter Term Deadlines

For the complete list of dates and deadlines, please bookmark and refer to the Registrar's Office website.

March 1: Last day for receipt of applications for admission from candidates who wish to be guaranteed consideration for financial assistance (including Carleton fellowships, scholarships and teaching assistantships) administered by Carleton University.

March 7: Last day to withdraw from late winter term courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

5G Course Publication Wins Award

A recent publication from the Ericsson-Carleton partnership 5G course has won the Best Presentation Award at the 2024 IEEE 13th International Conference on Communications, Circuits and Systems.

This study introduces the MPPK/DSTK algorithm, a cutting-edge digital signature that offers superior security against attacks, marking a significant step toward safeguarding digital communications in the quantum era.

Congratulations to the authors: Tommy Zhou (MSc), Zhehan Wang (MSc), Atinderpal Singh Lakhan (MSc), Iyad Isleem (M.Eng), Mohammed Abuibaid (PhD), and Prof. Jun Steed Huang, with special thanks to Prof. Michael Barbeau.

Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre’s Historic Pipe Organ Turns 60

Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre is home to one of the largest pipe organs in Ottawa, and the Canadian-built organ turns 60 this year. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the rare and awe-inspiring instrument with 5179 wind pipes in a beautiful Ottawa heritage theatre. This free ticketed event will be hosted on Sunday, Mar. 2 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to all.

Experience Sky Woman’s Story and Indigenous Beading at MacOdrum Library  

Register for Off the Page and Into Real Life: A Sky Woman Event, presented by the Library and the Office of the Associate Vice-President Indigenous Teaching, Learning and Research on March 7.

Enjoy a first-person retelling of Sky Woman’s story in the morning and an Indigenous beading workshop in the afternoon. Space is limited; registration is required for both sessions.

 

 

Paul Menton Centre: Graduate Student Writing Group

Are you a graduate student looking for a supportive virtual space to work on your thesis or other academic writing? Join the PMC Graduate Student Writing Group and connect with fellow students who understand the challenges of graduate work.

Facilitated by PMC Coordinators and Learning Strategists, the group meets twice per week on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon on MS Teams.

Feel free to join one or both sessions each week! This group is open to all Carleton graduate students. Please review our meeting guidelines before attending and view details here.

 

 

Carleton’s Tax Clinic is Open for Students!

Worried about filing your taxes this year? Don't be! The Sprott Tax Students' Association (STSA) is here to help with our free annual tax clinic.

To file your taxes at the clinic this March, you must first 
fill out our client intake form. We will contact you shortly afterwards with the details of your appointment and what to bring. The tax clinic will be held on campus from March 24 to March 29.

NPSIA MA Student Amy Hinchey Awarded the 2025 WiDS-CGAI Fellowship

Amy Hinchey, a master’s student at NPSIA specializing in Intelligence and International Affairs (IIA) & Cybersecurity, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 WiDS-CGAI Fellowship!

The WiDS-CGAI Fellowship, a collaboration between the Canadian Global Affairs Institute (CGAI) and Women in Defence & Security (WiDS), provides professional development opportunities to support the careers of women in defence and security. Through this fellowship, Amy will have access to mentorship, research and analysis opportunities with CGAI, as well as access to their extensive publications and resources.

WiDS works to promote and support the advancement of women in careers related to Canadian defence and security industries. The WiDS-CGAI Fellowship is awarded to outstanding female graduate and post-graduate students through the WiDS Annual Memorial Scholarship Process.
