Parents newsletter - May 2026

 

May marks the start of a new term filled with opportunities! Whether your student is beginning summer courses or taking a break from studies, it’s a great time of year to get caught up or prepared.

 

Important Dates and Deadlines

Tues. May 12, 2026: Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) for early summer courses.

Mon. May 18, 2026: Statutory holiday. University closed.

Wed. May 20, 2026: Last day for registration and course changes (including auditing) for full summer courses.

Sun. May 31, 2026: Last day to withdraw from full summer courses with a full fee adjustment (financial withdrawal).

Refer to the academic year calendar for all upcoming important dates.

 

Welcome to the Summer Term

Summer term has begun! Whether your student is catching up or getting ahead on their degree, Carleton has resources to support their success as they take advantage of the new term and move along the path toward graduation.

Celebrating Convocation 

Carleton University will celebrate the accomplishments of graduates with in-person convocation ceremonies from Mon. June 8 to Fri. June 12, 2026.

The complete ceremony schedule, along with information for graduates and guests, is available on the Convocation website.

 

Winter Term Deferred Exams

Full winter, late winter and fall/winter term deferred final examinations will be held Fri. May 15 to Wed. May 27, 2026. If your student deferred exams in the winter term, they can find their exam schedule on the Scheduling and Examination Services website, through their Carleton360 account or on the Carleton Mobile app. 

 

Student Parking Permits

Information about student parking permits for the 2026-2027 academic year is now available. Please note the student permit waiting list opens on Mon. July 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.

Tips for Tackling Move-Out Waste

Is your student moving out of an off-campus rental? Check out these tips to help reduce their waste and support the community by upcycling unwanted items.

 

Getting Ready for Fall Registration

As we enter the summer term, it’s a good time for students to get ready for fall term registration. Please visit the Current Students website for some great tips to ensure your Raven is well-prepared. Some things to consider in advance of registration include: Changes of Program Elements, government funding applications, registration status and year level, account balance and class schedule.

The fall/winter 2026-2027 class schedule and registration course planning tool will be available in Carleton Central (access by logging into Carleton360) on Tues. May 26, 2026. Registration begins on Thurs. July 2, 2026 for new first year students and Wed. July 8, 2026 for returning students based on pre-assigned timetickets. Your student’s exact timeticket will be available on Carleton Central approximately one week preceding the registration period.

 

CUSA Health and Dental Plan Auto-Enrolment Changes for Fall 2026

Beginning in the fall 2026 term, all undergraduate students taking 1.5 credits or more will be automatically enrolled in the CUSA Health and Dental Plan. The change lowers the eligibility threshold from 2.0 credits to 1.5 credits, aligning it with other student fees.

Following significant consultation, the AI Framework for Carleton University provides guidance on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) at Carleton, ensuring that the Carleton community is equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to use AI critically, effectively, responsibly and ethically.
