Shawn Daly                                                            President, West Hartford Girls Basketball League

Dear ,

"Happy Holidays" from all of the Board members at the West Hartford Girls Basketball League (WHGBL)!

As we wrap up this year, we want to take a moment to thank you for entrusting your daughter(s) to our league. It is our privilege to help them grow as leaders and athletes through learning the fundamentals of basketball. Your support and dedication to their development make it all possible.

We want to remind you that West Hartford Public Schools will be closed next week for the holiday break. When schools are closed, whether for holidays or inclement weather, WHGBL practices will also be canceled. If there is ever uncertainty, please check the front page of our league’s website at www.whgbl.org for updates or you can subscribe to and view our Facebook and Instagram pages.

Looking ahead, the first games of the season will begin on Sunday, January 5, 2025. You can find your team’s schedule on the league’s website. Additionally, “Photo Day” is scheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2025. On this day, team photos will be taken, and individual player photos will be available to be taken for purchase. More details about Photo Day will be shared as the date approaches.

Uniforms are expected to arrive shortly after New Year’s Day but before the first game of the season. Team Head Coaches will be notified by our Equipment Director, Rick Araya, when uniforms are ready for pick-up. Your daughter’s Head Coach will then inform you when and how to collect her uniform. Please keep in mind that uniforms will fit players differently, and in most cases, there are no extra uniforms available for exchange.

We encourage players to bring their own basketballs to practices (as mentioned in the last newsletter). However, no player should bring their own ball to games. Only Head Coaches are allowed to bring basketballs and equipment to games. Similarly, during games, no spectators should bring basketballs into the gym. Anyone attempting to enter the gym with a basketball will be asked to return it to their car.

We ask that you please take some time to review the "Parent’s Handbook" located in the Parents Info section of our website. We ask that you pay special attention to the "Spectator Code of Conduct" in the Parents Handbook to ensure a positive experience for all players, families, and fans.

As we prepare for an exciting season ahead, we wish you and your family a safe, joyous, and prosperous New Year. Thank you for being an integral part of the WHGBL community. We can’t wait to see you all in 2025!

Take care,

Shawn Daly
