March 15 2020

Dear Regent Families,

I hope you don't mind another message in quick succession. Following the Prime Minister's announcement today (Sunday), school will remain open for now.

KEEPING CHILDREN HOME

I understand that some families are opting to keep their child(ren) home from school this week. These families are not self-isolating in response to travel, rather, an individual choice based on concerns about the coronavirus. The College respects this decision and simply asks that a letter of absenteeism is forwarded (covering dates) to explain this absenteeism.

  • Please email the classroom teacher and Cc admin@regentcollege.wa.edu.au

SELF ISOLATION BY REQUIREMENT

"Anyone arriving in Australia from overseas will to be forced to self-isolate for 14 days..." (Prime Minister Scott Morrison - today 15th March 2020)

By extension of this announcement, we would ask that students do not return to school before a 14 day period of isolation has been met. Therefore, if a Regent College student has recently returned to Australia from overseas (anywhere) and has not yet self-isolated for 14 days before returning to school, this MUST happen first.

SCHOOL CLOSURE

As highlighted in the previous communication, the College is readying for the likelihood of a partial/full school closure.  We will let you know as soon as we know, however this mandate is likely to come from The Australian Government with little notice. Again, the length of school closure may be difficult to predict and this decision is likely to be out of our hands; however, we will keep you informed and are working to support your child's education during any school closure period.

In the event of a partial or full College closure, please note the following announcement/confirmation process:

1. SMS to College families directing them to check their email for a communication from the College

2. Email announcement explaining the partial or full closure process

As we enter this week, I would like to claim this promise from God over our school community:

Psalm 121 (The Bible)

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Yours sincerely

Derek Nicholls. Principal
