Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network

Thursday 21 April, 10.30 - 12noon

If you've already been to a Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive a MS Teams link for our 14th on 21 April.

If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative networking sessions for those working in the Barnet Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference.

This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding opportunities.

If you have any topics you would like to raise/discuss at future meetings, do let Ellen know.

Podcast Recommendation
From Wendy Alcock, Incredible Edible Barnet

Jon Richardson and the Futurenauts is my all-time favourite podcast at the moment!

Comedian and professional worrier Jon Richardson doesn’t sleep much at night. The questions he is asking himself in the small, dark hours see to that. Are we going to run out of food? Is it already too late to stop climate change?

The Futurenauts, Ed Gillespie and Mark Stevenson, join him to help figure out the answers.

Stop Press! £5 Million in Funding for Nature Projects to Mark Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is partnering with The Wildlife Trusts to deliver a Platinum Jubilee legacy investment, which will support around 200 new groups across the UK to identify and implement local action in their communities.

The joint initiative, Nextdoor Nature, aims to give access to the natural environment to thousands of people who may not have fully appreciated it before, while raising awareness of climate change and restoring natural heritage.

Projects supported by the initiative could include:

  • Establishing wild habitats and green corridors.
  • Rewilding school grounds.
  • Transforming urbanised and unused areas into green spaces.

This £5 million sits alongside a £2 million Jubilee investment to support paid placements for young people from under-served communities in the nature workforce.
