“This area has a lot of potential - but we have limited time to take advantage of that opportunity,” said Junaid Bajwa, Senior Partner at Flagship Pioneering, to 250+ attendees at our TechBio Shift event last week. Read the full recap on LinkedIn here.

The Knowledge Quarter is now home to the most significant AI companies in the world.

Last month, Anthropic and OpenAI signed leases to move thousands of talented employees to the neighbourhood, joining Google DeepMind, The Alan Turing Institute, and top British AI start-ups Synthesia, Wayve, and more.

"This cluster didn’t emerge from a planning document," explains Geraint Rees, UCL vice-provost, in Wired UK. "It grew because serious researchers and companies understand that proximity isn’t a nice-to-have... That’s how the innovation system actually works. It’s not a clean, linear transfer from lab to market. It’s messier, richer, more human than that."

Learn how AI is transforming London's built environment and transport system in our last two Future London events this May.

And don't forget to save the date for our two morning private views this summer: the Postal Museum's newest exhibition, 'The Jolly Postman', and WM College's summer student exhibition.

PUBLIC DISCUSSION SERIES

Future London: Technology & Built Environment

Tues 5 May, 5:30–7:30 PM @ Impact Hub London

AI is reshaping how London is designed, built, and approved. From the British Library extension to Coal Drops Yard to the wider transformation of Euston Road, the city is changing at a pace we haven't seen in decades.

Next Tuesday evening, join us as experts from architecture, planning, and construction dig into questions such as whether London's data infrastructure is good enough to train these tools on, how the Building Safety Act is shaping who will and won't adopt them, and whether global AI models can ever capture the specifics of how we build in London.

Panel: How is Technology Reshaping the Way We Build?

  • Pablo Zamorano Mosnaim, leading AI strategy at Heatherwick Studio
  • Funmbi Adeagbo, a RIBA-chartered architect from Catalyst
  • Russell Curtis, the founder director of RCKa Architects, Architect's Journal Architect of the Year 2025
  • Tom Holberton, an associate professor, chartered architect and researcher at UCL Bartlett School of Architecture [moderator]
