Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path project

August 2019

We are sending you this update on the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path as you have previously expressed interest in our SeaPath project. (We apologise if you receive this email twice if you are also subscribed to our Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path updates).

The NZ Transport Agency is delivering a walking and cycling link alongside the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The shared path will be five-metres wide on the east (Auckland City) side of the Auckland Harbour Bridge, directly linking Westhaven to Northcote Point and connecting with the future SeaPath route to create a seamless connection between the city, the North Shore and beyond.

While the two projects have a shared purpose of providing high quality walking and cycling, they have different histories and timeframes for construction. The Transport Agency is focused on delivering the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path as soon as possible taking into account the consenting work that has already been completed for the link in this location.

The SeaPath project is about to enter the detailed design and consent stage. That may mean both projects are completed at different times, but all the planning will be joined up and the two projects are being designed to work together.

What we’ve heard from you so far

In July, we held two open evenings to share the initial designs for the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path with stakeholders and the community, and hear from partners, residents and people more generally about the project. We also received some useful feedback about the SeaPath project.

Read our feedback report from July here.

We are grateful for the feedback and heard that there is significant support for us to get on and build the shared path as quickly as possible.

We also heard that people generally like the design and the opportunities for walking and biking that the shared path will provide.

There were also lots of questions and feedback about where the shared path will land at each end of the bridge, and how these landings will affect residents and properties in the area, as well as the possible need for and impacts of other facilities like parking, toilets and drinking fountains.

We will continue to work with individuals and groups as we develop the project to find ways to provide the best outcomes we can for all those who will benefit from and be impacted by the shared path.

Drop-in information sessions for the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path project

Come and see our plans for the landings at Northcote Point and Westhaven

Since publishing our preferred design for the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path earlier this year we have been working on how the path will connect to the southern and northern end of the harbour bridge.

We know people are keen to see these landing designs to understand what they look like, how they will be used and how they will fit within the environment.

We are coming to local communities, so you can see our plans for the landings at the south and north end of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Shared Path, ask us questions, and give us feedback.

The details for the sessions are:

Northcote War Memorial Hall
