State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill maintenance closure - 1 night in JanuaryThe SH2 Remutaka Hill will close for essential maintenance for one night on Sunday 11 January from 9pm to 4am. Escort Crossings We are able to escort drivers over the hill at certain times during the closure. Bookings can be made online with NZTA Wellington Transport Alliance using this link: Remutaka Hill Closure Escort Booking Form People wanting to cross the hill during the closure should book in advance for a place on the escorted crossings. Bookings for Sunday 11 January will close at 4pm on Friday 9 January. Any issues, please email customer@wta.nzta.govt.nz The escort crossings will occur at:
Escorted crossings are available for light vehicles only. To keep our workers safe, heavy vehicles cannot be accommodated. Please arrive 15 minutes early at the closure point. You will receive a booking confirmation with the key information prior to your crossing. Please be patient - the crossings will be slow for everyone's safety. Numbers are strictly limited and vehicles turning up without a booking risk being turned away, or having to wait at the closure point for the next opportunity. Access will be available for 'flashing light' emergency services throughout the closure. We understand the closures may inconvenience some road users and thank you for your patience and understanding as we carry out this essential maintenance work. These regular night closures significantly reduce the number of disruptions for road users at other times. Road crews can complete a large amount of work safely during these closures, because multiple crews can work across the hill at the same time without disrupting traffic. Reduced crossings in February and March 2026We will be resurfacing the road during the February and March closures. To safely and efficiently do these works, we must reduce the number of crossings offered in these months. The crossing times for these closures are below. February closure - 9pm Sunday 15 February to 4am Friday 20 February
March closure - 9pm Sunday 15 March to 4am Friday 20 March
We will make the February and March bookings available after the January 11th closure. |
