WA - Mandatory Covid-19 Booster Vaccination Requirement

Dear

Re: Mandatory COVID-19 booster vaccination requirement

I am writing to inform you about the mandatory COVID-19 booster vaccination requirement announced by the WA Government for workers in Western Australia who are currently following mandatory vaccination directions. This includes health care workers at public and private health care facilities, and health care workers in primary health care facilities, including private practices.

Previously, the WA Government announced mandatory vaccination directions which apply to health care workers who, for work purposes, access public and private hospitals and public health service facilities and primary health care workers who, for work purposes, access primary health care facilities. This includes audiologists working in private practice settings.

However, the mandatory vaccination requirement for primary health care workers does not apply if:

  • A sole primary health care worker is providing a health service solely by telehealth and there is no attendance by a patient at the premises at any time.
  • Where only part of a premises is being used as a primary health care facility, nothing in the directions prevents a primary health care worker who is not vaccinated against COVID-19 from entering or remaining upon that part of the premises which is not being used as a primary health care facility.

Health care workers who are unable to have a COVID-19 vaccine can request a COVID-19 vaccination exemption for medical reasons. Immunisation medical exemption criteria is available from the Australian Government website.

Booster deadline for workers following mandatory vaccination directions

Health care workers currently following mandatory vaccination directions are required to receive a booster dose by the following dates:

  • If you received your second vaccination on or before 4 September 2021, the due date for your booster dose is 4 February 2022.
  • If you received your second vaccination on 5 to 30 September 2021, the due date for your booster dose is 5 to 28 February 2022.
  • If you received your second vaccination on 1 to 31 October 2021, the due date for your booster dose is 28 February 2022.
  •  If you received your second vaccination from 1 November 2021 onwards, the due date for your booster dose is 1 March 2022 onwards.

Further information can be viewed on page 2 of the WA Government’s Mandatory Vaccination FAQs.
